He won't get a pass, but he'll absorb a fine for his comment. No way he gets suspended for Game 7. Roy's already working on making amends.

ESPNINDIANAPOLIS -- Roy Hibbert used a gay slur in one answer and a curse to refer to the media in another during his news conference after Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals, putting himself in line for being disciplined by the NBA.

Hibbert ended a response to a question about his defense on LeBron James with "no homo." Hibbert had drawn a key charge on James in Indiana's 91-77 victory against Miami on Saturday and lamented not providing enough help to teammate Paul George on James in Game 3.

Hibbert later reached out to Jason Collins via Twitter. Collins made headlines in April when he became the first active male pro athlete in a major American sport to come out publicly as gay.

"Hey can I get a follow," the tweet read. "Would like to discuss something's with you."

They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization. I sincerely have deep regret over my choice of words last night.

The "they" reference to plural comments is inclusive of his calling the press "Y'all MFers" minutes before the "no homo" mention.

I believe Roy's sincere. Not quite a perfectly crafted apology but it's enough. And like he said before his slip-up, he's not worried about fines, so he won't be surprised.

Forgiven. Let's move on. I think he's sincere. Anyone who saw the postgame knows that he was fired up about a few things. Don't think it's a big and everyone should move on. Plus "no homo" is far from the most offensive thing he could've said. He sounded like a 12 year old by saying it more than he did homophobic

Only other thought I had on this was: Jason Collins' coming out doesn't make him the Gayfather for NBA players when they slip up. Until more players come out, players who otherwise could care less about Twin will seek him out to be their shield when they get in hot water for their words and deeds.

We'll see how well Roy does in his final postgame commentary now.
