I love sports and I'm ok with the fans being happy for the sport, but why do we have to scream at the TV? why do we have to get drunk during a televised sporting event? Why's it even glorified? I like fun, but it's a little loud and then the whole drunk thing I can't deal with.

Are you taking about being a sports bar or at home? For me and if at home, we do it cuz it's fun! I love college football and I'm willing to spend my Saturdays in front of the TV with a drink and a good screaming voice. icon_smile.gif

Some people get too much into the game. It happens with anything, and when drunk, people usually scream even louder.

Sometimes when watching a game it's like you're almost there. Consumed by the emotion and excitment one can get carried away and that's without alcoholicon_eek.gif

I scream at the refs when they botch a call or at huge scoring plays. But I hate the guy that needs attention by screaming at every play, every call, all game long.

better question: why are you breaking into random people's houses to watch people watch sports and then complain when they yell at the tv?

I don't like sports, never have, but don't get me in front of a TV during the world cup because you are guaranteed to watch a trainwreck. I am Mexican, the only sport we care about is soccer.

You realize that "being from Philadelphia" doesn't really excuse the kinds of obnoxious atrocities I've seen at many Phillies games. Believe me. I know obnoxious as I'm a Red Sox fan, and it's not an excuse for their douchetastic behavior, either.

*snorts* Really, really you want to pull that card? Let's put this to an end quickly. I am have been to all 4 sporting teams in Philadelphia and I know how to act around them and I act with decorum. EVERY TEAM is douchetastic once you peel back the layers, especially the Red Sox and Yankees.

Also, the context of this post in the forum was to ask if you ever yell at a TV watching sports. I replied that I am a Philadelphia fan, we don't just yell at the TV and care about our teams mildly, we are ruthless.

My roommate will scream at video games...but only if his BF is there... And his BF sceams but only when the roommate is there.

They also do this with traffic when riding together.
    I think it's a bonding thing.

    I also think it's ridiculous.

I don't really have an opinion one way or the other, but if I'm at a live game, screaming is half the fun!

People do this at my gym sometimes during big football or soccer games. It drives me crazy! Watch it somewhere else like a sports bar and do that if you feel the need to yell!

Do people understand that it doesn't change the results?

I think it's obnoxious and self indulgent. I watch and enjoy a lot of sports and cheer when something extraordinary happens or my team scores but the question was about those who screem constantly. And scream at refs even when a call is correct, and scream for no reason. I think it is a sick need to scream ME ME ME. I especially hate it when the fan of the winning team is being loud and obnoxious in the presence of a fan of the team getting trounced. Very childish. What we're essentially watching is a bunch of millionaires with no allegiance to their own team if more money is being offered elsewhere playing a game. But the screaming fans think there is some kind of virtue in their fandom.

ok so I have 2 good stories for this actually.

i am a huge Alabama football fan. been one for 10 years (back when they used to not be so good). but I go to Penn State. for the Alabama-LSU game this year my friends came over to watch. after halftime is when the game got shitty but that last drive we were screaming jumping up and down and when bama scored the winning touchdown we all just about lost it.

same thing happened with the SEC championship game against georgia. we had those pom pom shakers and we were acting like we were actually at the game. (annoyed the rest of the people in my house actually haha)

but I think we get so in to our own sports teams that we do scream at the TV. hell its so much fun.

^^ in my own defense though I understand that Alabama fans have kind of a reputation for being obnoxious so i cant speak for everyone else

When I watch gymnastics and someone on my team falls, I tend to shout..... " NOOOOOOOOOOO" or "GOD DAMNIT!"
