    First elected in 1982 and multimillionaire founder of ADP. Retired but was petitioned to run again in 2002 when Sen Robert Torricelli, facing ethics investigation, announced he wouldnt run in Sept 2002. Cory Booker, mayor of Newark, already announced he was going to run. Other Dem candidate is probably Rep. Frank Pallone, representing north Jersey shore area since 1989.

    Won election in 1982 (first try) beating Rep. Millicent Fenwick - better known as the characture for Lacey Davenport in Doonesbury comic strip. Also was chief sponsor of 1987 legislation banning smoking in airplanes.
