i dont understand the hate with breaking the ice with 'hey' or etc.
    conversations gotta start somewhere right?
saying too much can ruin the deal, or come across as creepy lol

show me someone that says they wont respond to a 'hey' from a hot guy, and ill show you a liar

You're absolutely right with that. A hot guy can message me ANYTHING he wants and he will get a response from me.

But, - for the most part, I don't reply to "hey"; because when I do, the convo goes nowhere or they expect me to carry the convo.

There's a kid's joke that goes like this:

    Hey!

    Hay is for horses.

    Aren't you glad you're a cow?

"Hey," and a hot photo might get a reply.

"Hey" as the first word of a longer message, would get a reply.

Just "Hey'" ? Would probably depend on whether he had a sexy accent.

This literally just made me LOL.

"Hey", "sup", etc. are just simple icebreakers, and it's just the internet. I usually don't mind initiating further conversation if someone took the initiative to hit me up. It usually isn't a long reply, just something to hit the ball back in their court (if I'm interested).

Saying only "hey" is just letting the guy know that a door is open if he wants to walk through & get to know you a little. I always reply to the message, doesn't take me effort.

But saying hey then mentioning your profile is always good.
Ex: hey man, enjoyed looking at your profile (or something like that)

ill respond to anything, however little, a conversation has to start somewhere. Its like you go up to a guy at a bar and start talking randomly, its usually with hello and it goes from there.............................................................................................................................................................................. and so on and so forth...............................................................

Turn-off. Sure, the conversation has to start somewhere, but I've given you many better places to werk with, if not in the profile, in pictures, so you can do better.

You know I've gotten that a few times and so I do message back out of politeness.
I don't know what to actually say back so I just message back with "hi" and leave it at that.
So far every conversation had died after that reply.
    Maybe it's just me lol.

    or you could respond with:

...how you doin? sorry you can't get through.
why don't you leave your name and your number and I'll get back to you!

De La Soul - ring ring ring and yeah I realise this was a bad joke.

Just curious as to what makes you so freaking special that you have to control the way someone sends you a greeting breaking the ice w/ a simple "hey"
Sounds more like a control freak.
What difference does it make. it could be he read your profile, saw something that actually connected with him so he shoots you an email only to be shot dwn because you have a prerequisite of wrds that ppl must use when introducing themselves to you, which i'm sure he didn't know you were the last great guy on the planet requring such standards frm common folk.
So many guys wonder why they're single and do stupid ass shit like thisicon_rolleyes.gif

I they write 'hey' to me, I write 'hey' back, and see where it goes from there.

EDIT: I'm totally going regret typing that.

If people wrote more in their profiles on dating apps/sites, other people would have more stuff to talk about in their first message.

When a guy messages me with "Hey", I usually respond with "Hey, how are you?"

However, if a guy regularly messages me with "Hey" just because he's bored (and he doesn't make any real effort in starting a conversation), there's a good chance I'll ignore the message. I enjoy chatting with people, but I don't care for being expected to entertain someone just because they're bored and idling online.

    To "Sup" I might reply:

"Prithee, good sir, but I have already had mine repast this night. Mayhap we sup together on another occasion?"

this is bullshit. 9 times out of 10 if I actually take the time to read a hot guy's profile and then message him accordingly, asking him something about his profile or such, i never even get a response.
