The Meth-Fueled, Weeklong Orgies Ravaging London’s Gay Sex-Party Scene

    http://www.vice.com/read/the-week-long-meth-fuelled-sex-parties-taking-over-londons-gay-scene

According to David Stuart, director of Antidote—London's only dedicated LGBT-specific drug-and-alcohol support service—the number of crystal meth and mephedrone users injecting the drugs in a sexual context leapt from 20 percent in 2011 to 80 percent in 2012. Seventy percent of those injecting are reportedly sharing needles. "It's a staggering and frightening increase," Stuart told me.

And, of course, what makes these slamming parties unique is the slamming itself. Injecting meth (or "Tina," as it's commonly referred to in the gay community) provides a far more intense, longer, and therefore cheaper hit than smoking it, ramping up your libido and stripping inhibitions. It's turned London's already pretty athletic gay sex-party scene into an extreme sport, with revellers apparently averaging up to five sexual partners a session.

No way. Meth was widely used in my gayborhood in the late 90s when I was a teenager, and SO many of the users I knew back then died, or are now living with HIV. I myself went through a six month period where I was using it with friends on the weekends, and out of that whole group I'm the only one who still has all his teeth. It really is gross.

It takes days, and no, you remember everything, but the memories fade over time.

My first published novel is called The Tragedy of Miss Geneva Flowers, and it's all about meth and the ravages of AIDS. It's often compared to Catcher in the Rye, because of the narrative voice, but the story is set in gay drug culture.

Edit: writing the book was cathartic and also what saved me. I got out of a downward spiral before it was too late. Most people who use meth are toast.

Yes, meth is gross, but I was more referring to the week-long orgies part.

There was little Johnny, who hung himself.
The guy from NYC who died on the toilet
Brandon, who was stabbed to death by a trick
John, Happie, and countless others who have HIV now
And my best friend at the time, who is now homeless, brain damaged, and in and out of treatment...... All of them had their lives ruined by meth.

It is idiotic behaviour, but I would question just how prevalent it is. In a city of over 8 million people, you will always find a few who are off the scale in terms of self-destructive behaviour.

"But the stupid thing is that no one can ever come, because crystal meth stops you from coming—as does Viagra—so it's just never-ending sex. It’s painful. Most people end up with no skin on their dicks and some end up in hospital because of panic attacks brought on by too much crystal,” he continued.

Keep in mind, the author of the Vice article has a story and a book to sell.

"Max Daly is a journalist and author specializing in social affairs and illegal drugs. He is the co-author of Narcomania: A Journey through Britain's Drug World, published by Random House"

He does have an incentive to exaggerate how widespread a problem this is.

Is he exaggerating? I have no idea.
Any Londoners here have any personal knowledge to share?

    Sounds nasty.

But I wonder how far he can be trusted when he makes stuff up. Viagra doesn't prevent you from coming. So I gotta wonder if "most people end up with no skin on their dicks" is pure hyperbole.

As a Londoner, while I'm sure this activity exists it is certainly far from accepted social activity and out of everyone I know who lives here I can think of one guy who indulges in this type of behaviour. Dig deep enough into the goings on of any major city around the world and you'll find pretty much every type of behaviour.

The mindfuck with meth is the supercharge libido... and then not being able to keep (or even get) a hard-on.

I chalk up one benefit to living in Missouri: We're the methamphetamine capital of the world. All you need to do is wander into any Wal-Mart and look around at the shoppers to gain an instant aversion towards doing crystal.

Am a Londoner and it's a load of Bollocks. I have a wide social circle here and I don't know anybody who's a user - in fact it's frowned upon more so.

And they couldn't be like "hey let's all get tested, be drug and disease free, get ourselves into groups and have some fun" without the bloody meth?

Jesus, I thought gay guys were easy when it comes to sex...

For me, if you need meth to get that set up, you're already way too uptight. If sexuality were freer, would the drugs be even necessary or so tempting?
