too many reasons to list but all I do know is the ppl that do that are insanely stupid and disgusting. most of the time it comes up from jealousy, anger after a rough argument or moment or just dominance. I remember a friend of mine told me he was beat by his lover because they were having a simple argument and it escalated to "who' stronger" and this hole ape mentality until it got insanely violent. of course physical abuse occurs to women more often because they do tend to be a weaker gender and douches feel more secure in beating someone weaker. so ya : / sad isnt it?

    From what? I forget already.

Well, I can't answer your question, it's gonna be different in many cases - drugs, alcohol, mental instability, abusive childhood, etc, etc.

But I can say that when it happened to me, just once, I moved out of the guy's house at the earliest opportunity, and not long afterwards found a new BF. I still don't entirely know what his problem was that caused him to leave bruises on me, but I knew that becoming a victim of domestic violence wasn't going to be MY problem.

If your question relates to a situation regarding yourself, as the victim, then consider dropping this guy immediately.

If I was attacked by someone I had cultivated in a relationship, it would be over. Physical attacks have no place anywhere. You need to feel safe in your own home. Definitely a non negotiable event.

Because they are sick. No one should be involved with such a person.

    +1

I am constantly amazed by guys I know who've gone through this. (I won't even get into hetero situations like this!) The ones who take the abuse seem to have been brainwashed into thinking they're at fault; and, to belabor the point, there's never a justification for it IMHO.

I would not tolerate abuse of any kind - physical, emotional, mental.
