Yes, kudos to ABC Family for bringing gritty realism to yet another plausible program, this one set in San Diego and featuring two willowy, attractive lipstick lesbians, one a cop and the other a magnet school vice principal, raising in their gorgeous million dollar professionally decorated, furnished, renovated and tastefully restored vintage Craftsman house a stone's throw from the Pacific even more improbably attractive biological and foster children with (gasp!) secrets.

And to ice the cupcake none of the gay characters are played by actual gay people.

But these straight actresses convey lesbianism by wearing upswept 'dos while kicking ass by day, only letting their hair fall into long, soft ringlets nights and weekends whilst raising their marginally diverse brood with a deft mixture of discipline and love - all while finding time to serve up hot home cooked meals 'round their $3,000 kitchen farm table. Plus the cop wears her uniform home instead of checking it in to her locker along with her sidearm at the end of her shift like everyone else. Badass. But the police captain, who thinks partnering the lesbian with her nebbishy ex-husband in the same squad car, who like every other straight on the show is utterly devoid of common sense and parenting skill, allows this. Only someone as fabulous as Peter Paige (Queer As Folk's "Em") could get dreck like this greenlit:
