I wonder if human beings will ever move on and leave religion in the fairy tale aisle.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Religion happens to also be the source of of some great philosophical view points.

The most well adjusted and happy people I know are also devout catholics. It's quite impressive.

i feel he supports gays but his role as a catholic leader prevents him to, example italy his base for vatican has a pope seated but has homosexuality normalized & accepted ,
on contrary to Grand Mufti of Saudi ( Sunni islamic nation) & Supreme Ayatollah of Iran ( shia islamic nation )
both who ACCEPT homosexuality to be a sin equivalent to a death penalty... in that terms , the leader of ,i dunno some 1.2 Billion catholic doesn't approve death or killing , so in short theyre doin' their roles as tradition says them to,

id support a catholic but never any other Abhramic religion faith, no matters im a Protestant

Call me cautiously optimistic about the new guy. I don't expect him to start officiating gay weddings in St. Pete's, but gay marriage not being called 'greatest threat to civilization' anymore, is already quite the progress.

If those religious leaders would just stop actively campaigning against us, as the LDS decided some weeks ago, we'd be a huge step further.

I know of a lot of Christians who support the death penalty for gay: see Uganda. Hate comes in all flavors.
