What are your thoughts on that statement? (One I did not make but heard from a student in my college who was outed by another guy in public over some drama I don't know about)

    I hate it.

You never hear a straight man have to clarify that his sexuality doesn't deminish his manhood. This is just another sign of a gay man who believes that his sexuality is something he should be ashamed of and make excuses for.

    My Thoughts:
a poor attempt to start a Masc v. Fem flame war.
--feel there aren't enough nOOb's around to get the embers to ignite.
Wait...Pat's back, so maybe I'm wrong.

So why do you have to make a distinction between your sexuality and how it affects your perception of your masculinity?

Personally anyone who goes after what they want to be happy is a man. All this bullshit with closeted people and so forth is just stupid.

Let people be, and let them achieve happiness in their own way. People get way to caught up in the whole fem/masc universe and it is time to let it all go and just let people be who they are.

There are so many definitions of "man" that I can't respond. Everyone tries to live up to their own definition.
Raul Julia in some movie had a good definition of a man, something about never humiliating anyone.

If you're gay then you're still a man. Keep yo penis.

And for some reason this thread instantly reminded me of this video

    stereotype.

the assumption of society that being gay means being submissive, and feminine.

therefore, to society as a whole, being gay, doesn't mean we want to loose our dicks and ballsack and opt for vaginas and boobs.

    we r men

+1 on your disdain for the "fem/masc universe," but just wanted to point out that manhood has also been defined as *not* going after "what they want to be happy." ...which is to belabor the point that manhood is a fluid cultural construct.

(Oh, & the OP gives me the lulz.)

"I am be Gay but I'm still a Man" If you're going to post something, at the very least, proofread it for grammar before posting.

Having a penis doesn't make you a man, it just makes you male. The definition of a "man" varies from historical time period to the next, culture to culture and individual to individual.

I see your point but I also could see you saying "I'm black but I'm not a thug" in an effort to distance yourself from a known stereotype. So I can see why others might make those type of statements if they felt like they needed to define themselves to people who have limited experience with a particular group or if they were describing themselves to someone online. I've never had to tell someone that I wasn't a thug nor have I had to say "I'm a man" to anyone I've met in person though. You just have to let your confidence speak for you, regardless of whether you're masc/fem, thug/non-thug.
