    Or any guy of any faith?

    Personally I could never (or will never again) date a guy who is religious at all. I'm sorry but I just couldn't deal with the differences. Everytime I hear a gay guy especially a black gay guy spouting out all that religious stuff it makes me cringe. Like there was this one guy who I was sorta interested in who was Christian and at that time of my life I was trying give people a chance. He told me he would never want to get married. I asked him why and he said because he believes marriage is between a man and a woman and that's what the bible says and so on. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

    Flipside Christians and other religious people could you date an atheist or agnostic?

    They technically believe the same thing: the Abrahamic God created the universe, the Ten Commandments are law, Jesus and his whole saga was real and the rapture is coming one day. Although I think the Mormons don't believe that last part so much. Either way it's still the same packaged fakata meshugas to me.

    The worst are the evangelical and Pentecostals.

    I am strongly anti-religious, but it is not a deal-breaker for me in terms of relationships, provided that the person:

    1. doesn't keep harping on about it all the time;

    2. doesn't try to get me to change my position (One guy said to me "I don't care if you don't pray, but really you need to believe in God otherwise I will constantly worry that God will do something horrible to you!!" I thought WTF!!;

    3. Shows respect (and respect must be mutual, both from the atheist and respect from the religious person). People can disagree without having to redicule the other.

    4. Doesn't want to poison children of the same-sex couple with religion. Indoctrinating children into a religion is child abuse, and I could not sit by and watch my children being abused (whether adopted or surrogate children).

    And of course, there is a scale here. Some religions are worse then others, some people are less fundamentalist etc. This does not make religion acceptable, it simply means that I acknowledge that that some religious outlooks are less damaging than others.

    A practical viewpoint . Depends on what is meant by "date." I am not single, so I don't date. If I were single, I could not "seriously" date any strongly religious guy. If he never brought it up, I suppose I might, but since there are enough non-relgious guys out there, why would I? I regard religious s belief as a mild mental illness - the ability and desire to believe in the non-rational or irrational. The OP talks about Christian - but every other religion is equally irrational. One could just as well believe that there is a cosmic turtle bearing the world, or that the god Apollo is driving the sun across the sky each day in his chariot. Why not worship Thor? Is'nt he supposed to be all powerful? Why is the christian "god" so special?

    My partner is Jewish, but not religious. If he were strongly religious, he would not be my partner.

    About your two last points that's my biggest concern. If I were with a religious person and we were childless I probably could deal with it a lot better but because a huge part of most religions (especially Christianity) tends to be about passing along the bullshit to the next generation I couldn't sit back and let it happen.

    And about that scale you are right. Although they are all crazy to me I could date a scientologist sooner than maybe an evangelical Christian. I could date a guy who believes in Santeria and Yoruba quicker than I could one who was a Jevovah Wittness.

    No I'm being honest. Black gay guys who are super religious irk me to the core. Non gay black religious people make me wanna commit hari cari but the gay ones seem to take the lunacy to a whole nother level. At least with other groups I can meet some who are 'kinda' normal but still religious. But most black gay very religious people I've met are still living with the scars of their faith and are fucked up by it.

    Seriously though, there's a lot of variation when it comes to religious beliefs. Some are strict and literal, some take a broader approach. I don't recommend painting everyone with the same brush. You should really get to know a person, find out what they believe, why they believe it and whether or not it would have an impact on you. That way you're getting the full picture, rather than just a label and a stereotype.

    As for me, I'd date anyone who treats me with respect.

    I don't see the big deal. If he can respect my beliefs I certainly can respect his.
    For some people beliefs are personal. They don't run around trying to convert everyone or condemn people who don't share their religion. To some people church is like a social club.
    Discounting everyone who has different beliefs than you is like saying you wouldn't date someone from a different culture because he has customs that aren't identical to yours.

    Not really.

    Customs are usually based on actual real-life things.
    Faith is not.

    I really couldn't see myself in a long term relationship with anyone other than an atheist. Lucky I "married" one.

    I see where you're coming from but to me the simple fact they even have those thoughts and beliefs doesnt sit well with me and I wouldn't wanna be associated with that in the way of a relationship,

    In principle, yes, but it would really depend on the guy`s behaviour towards me.

    There are lots of Christians here.
    I used to be Christian but now I'm merely over-the-top spiritual.
    The "let's talk about how bad Christians can be but over look how bad atheists can be" thread comes up once a week here. I'm only posting to say you won't be alone forever.
