Career Move

So have been jobless for quite sometime here

My lease with my current apt end in August and my mom, in CT, said that if I don't have a job by then that I would have to return there or to Boston and live with my aunt. They said I should look for jobs there but I really don't wanna move back there.

I am looking for banking/real estate/financial jobs but also looking at writing and photography and government jobs (since I have a degree in Journalism and skills in Arabic which would be good for gov I assume)

I really want to stay here in AZ but if I REALLY had to move, I wouldn't mind NYC or something. I just don't wanna be with my family, as bad as it sounds, it's true. They bought a house out here but for me to live in it (it would be available in Oct) would be a bigger cost than renting it out. It's being rented till Oct because the current owners are renting till their house is built. So if I stayed here till then I would end up on a month-to-month lease which would be way higher than what I pay now.

Is it time to try to live somewhere else? But where?

Just curious but what's a young, educated, gay, non-white guy doing in Arizona? Based on what you've written, I think you can realize your full potential in a more progressive/lively environment. Unless I'm misinformed, there isn't much of a banking/real estate/financial sector there right?

I think you should put your efforts in:
    Seattle, WA
    Houston, TX
    NoVa / DC
    Los Angeles, CA

Your career goals are all over the board. I think you need to decide first on what kind of job you are going to be happy with before you decide on where to move. Here are a few thoughts:

Financial/Banking - NYC and Charlotte, NC. Two of the biggest financial districts in the country.

Real Estate - anywhere that this job is in demand.

    Gov't - DC

    NoVa / DC

Avoid the NoVa part of that. Northern Virginia outside Arlington+DC+Alexandria gets low quality fast. By low quality I mean suburban blagh.

Also housing in the Northern Virginia area is ridiculously expensive.
