Liberal Media?

I'm tired of hearing Alaska Princess Sarah Heath Palin talking about the liberal media. My own borough's paper, the Advance, has endorsed Obama. Mind you, this is a paper that has not endorsed a Democrat since 1976. I'd like to offer up some other fine examples (big and small) of the true FAIR AND BALANCED MEDIA... all of which have endorsed Obama.

DesMoines Register (which did choose Kerry in 2004)
Hartford Courant (which has endorsed two Democrats in its history)
New Haven Register (which endorsed Bush in 2004)
Chicago Tribune (another Bush 2004 picker)
New York Daily News (which is outrageously conservative)
Providence Journal (which endorsed Bush in 2004 as well)

So, I admit. The New York Times, Jim Leher, and NPR are liberal. But there seem to be alot of media outlets around that are capable of judgement and honest arguments.

Why don't some of you Republicans try that for a change? Honest arguments. Instead of blaming the media for all your party's woes.

The Myth that the media is liberal has been spread by the republicans for years and its COMPLETELY FALSE
    http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2447

Spread by the ever present rightwingnut pundits.... how many of them are there? icon_rolleyes.gif

WhatTheFox News is a 24 hr republican public relations tool

    The Washington Times
    The New York Post
    it goes on and on....
That we got George W Bush supposedly elected twice and that he was able to send us into a war on false pretenses without the media picking up on it
    is evidence enough

Just like his father George W. tried the same tactic of blaming the media for all his ills. But he only tried it a few times and it did not work.

Liberal Media is a Right Wing Neo Con Conspiracy used to scare people. Those Damn republicans always trying to scare people.

The media will be liberal or conservative, wherever the wind blows, no matter who the politicians are, simply to sell newspapers or get good ratings.

    KissingPro:

I actually think the media is motivated mostly by sensationalism. Note how things like the Wright scandal and Terry Schiavo have a tendency to just blow up. I've actually been really proud of most media outlets the last few months for avoiding the temptation to focus incessently on things like Bill Ayers and actually focusing on issues.

In certain areas of the media (e.g. TV) the media probably is more "liberal" than the general public. However, there are big exceptions such as FOX (Fucking Obnoxious to the Xtreme) News.

On talk radio in the US right-wing commentators such as Rush Limbaugh seem to get a lot of attention.

Newspapers and magazines cover the spectrum of political views.

One thing I will agree with is the assertion that most media sees news as entertainment not as information to provide to the public. That is why I stick to PBS, BBC and CBC newsworld. Watching channels like CNN (remember the Iraq invasion's "shock and awe' coverage) just get me angry.

Yeah.... you cite CBC and the BBC but those are foreign outlets
You want to see the real difference in in whta's talked about here and in places like Europe and Canada
check out their News if you have a dish or access to foreign channels
You'll be AMAZED about what They talk about and what WE don't

And as far as PBS is concerned I would have agreed with you that PBS was more liberal a few years back
But the Bush crime family put a stop to that when they packed the FCC with right wing idealogues
That's why Bill Moyers left and wrote extensively about it

We are under a barage of right wing propaganda
Why is the Death tax called the Death tax?
Why is a Partial Birth abortion called what it is? Do you think that's what it's called when it's scheduled as an emergency procedure in a hospital?
These people know what they are doing and have think tanks and PR personel to forward their adgenda

I am glad you posted this GQ. icon_smile.gif I have felt for a long time that American citizens are under so much pressure to conform and to perform. it is in fact because of right wing propaganda being shoved down your throats.

Yet time and time again I see individual Americans rise above the barage you speak of and somehow create the brilliance that the world has come to expect and emulate.

From an international perspective I want to know what the BBC is doing and saying.

www.cbc.ca has most programs and news on live and/or delayed feeds. even HNIC (Hockey Night in Canada) for those who enjoy hockey.

The term that always gets me is when CNN or other American news outlets talk about illegal immigrants as "aliens". I keep expecting to see little green men running around!

My parents and I watched the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite for years (for me it started around 196icon_cool.gif. It is hard to put into words to a young person these days how much the evening news has changed. I guess most people today watching a news broadcast from the 60's or 70's would find it dry and boring. But serious news is not entertainment. Leave entertainment to the "reality" shows, sitcoms and sports.
