Difference between Chicago Pride Fest and Parade

I was planning on attending Pride in Chicago and had blocked off the weekend of the 28th-30th (website said parade was the 30th) from work when I heard that a bunch of my friends were going to Chicago this weekend. I looked online and Pride Fest is happening this weekend while the parade is the weekend after.

I've been to Chicago Pride before and that didn't seem to be the case the year that I went. I'm just wondering (for future experiences) which weekend is better to go and have a good time. I love walking around and taking in the city on a normal visit, but Pride was insanely fun the year I went, and I want that experience again!

So can anyone give me 411?

I'd say for almost all pride events..

Festival = music, dancing, food, drinks, walking around shirtless, etc. Usually an admission you have to pay.

Parade = a free public parade down the main road. Something that a lot of straight people also go to.

Hey there! The city of Chicago received too many complaints about Pride in the past couple of years, just because having 800,000 people crammed into one neighbourhood for one weekend caused a lot of problems. So the Pride planners are attempting to solve it by splitting the Pride Fest and the Pride Parade.

This weekend is the Fest, which is pretty much a street fair. Booths, live music, performances, etc.

Next weekend is the Parade, which I'm sure you know what it is.

No one can say which weekend is going to be better because this is the first year it's been split. My money is on the Parade though. You probably picked the right weekend.

    Have fun here!

I will volunteer to show you around, hold your hand and eventually make our way back to your hotel so I can help you "relax"

it all depends on what you're after... PrideFest will be a little more low key than the actual parade and is more or a scaled down Market Days this year.

I think you'll have another blast at the Parade this year, there just won't be booths and what not over on Halsted just north of Addison for the whole weekend.

Thanks for clearing this up. I'm in Chicago this weekend and I guess my friends who are hosting me will show me what it's all about.

If you can make it back in August for Market Days, DO IT.

OK, so what do you do for the parade, the fest, and market days?
