Did your family come out of the closet with you?

When you told your family you were gay, did they go on to tell their friends, and extended family? Did they hide it at all costs? Did they avoid telling people unless questioned?
For some people, it's a difficult thing to talk openly about (for whatever reason).

    Interesting question.

To be honest, I don't know to what extent they've told others. My relationship with my father was compromised before I came out. I don't have close extended family.

I know my mother discusses it with some friends these days, but clearly not all. She's occasionally introduced my husband of 3 years as my "friend".

Yup. It was a huge drama. They insisted they had to tell everyone, to prevent a rift in the family, which was what happened when my aunt came out. I guess, it worked out for the best.

Yes, but when I saw how they were dressed, I sent them right back in.
