"Wendy and Tom Montgomery are devout Mormons from California who pounded on doors in 2008 to support the passage of Proposition 8, the state referendum that overturned the ruling that allowed same-sex couples to marry in California, and is now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

They did so not knowing that their now 14-year-old son, Jordan, was gay and would later contemplate suicide because of the church's steadfast belief that homosexuality is a sin that would cut him off from his family not only here on earth but in the afterlife.

Oh boo-hoo. They got what they wanted in 2008, and now they wanna do a "nevermind"?

Let them go fuck themselves. California is stuck with their legacy, and all their apologies, regrets and second thoughts won't change that. Where was their "revelation" when they were successfully promoting Prop 8?

If somehow the coming SCOTUS decision is not favorable to returning marriage equality to California, hopefully they will work just as hard for the pro-equality side when it is up for a vote in 2016 to bring marriage equality, knocking as many doors as they did before, maybe even the same doors and neighborhoods.

This is a beautiful thing you reference here. I grew up with a Mormon friend who eventually, but never openly, accepted his gayness. He would only share his true self and reality with me because I my family was from Africa and we understand the reality of nature and its dictates. But, the fact that his mom accepted it as a Mormon woman says a lot about her as a mother that should be admired by many people, Mormon or not. Cudos to her. She probably saved her son's life and she doesn't know it.

Certainly now that they are aware of their son being gay they change their views on marriage equality, however the damage has been done. Here in California we are still dealing with the aftermath of what these people did. All of us have to deal with with the harm these people caused. Now that it affects their son, they are on "our"side. Good for the young man to disclose to his parents about himself. It must have been very difficult. Kudos to him!

It's touching and disgusting at the same time, that so many people
will refuse to believe homosexuality is not a choice until it starts to
    destroy their own family happiness.

There is so much wrong with the Mormon faith. Let me start with... I was born into the faith, finished a two-year mission, granduated from BYU... blah, blah blah... I still live in Utah. I read the Mormon's press releases, and frankly I understand their bullshit better than most.

The Mormons have well organizized groups that are paid to manipulate public opinion. These paid opinion manipulators submit articles to the Utah newspapers (using bullshit names etc...)

Before 1978 Mormons wouldn't touch African Americans with a 10-foot pole. They (my people) were about as racist as you can get. Now the Mormon press releases claim they never treated blacks badly... Bullshit! I was there... I remember.

Look at the Violence Against Women Act... the Republican Mormons all voted against it... because it included the gays.

The Mormons claim to be more friendly towards gays now... Bullshit... Mormons are the most passive-agressive people in the world. They refuse to be called out on it. They attempt to santitize their hatred to the gays...

Everything they do, say or write is dripping with sinister motives. They don't love the gays. They've had their butt whipped because of California, they've had Mormon (individuals) attempt to be gay-friendly.... but don't mistake they are as bent on hurting women, children, and gays more than ever. They are a sinister group lead by a sinister group of "Brethren" who are as bent on the destruction of gays.

They continue to praise the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah. They are still waiting for this destruction to happen to us (the gays). Little do they comprehend that the Mormons are guilty of the sin of Sodom... not the gays. I worry that over time the gays will forget about the Mormon's insults, attacks, and cruelty against women, children, and gays. I worry that the Mormons will re-invent themselves as an accepting/loving people. I hope we as gays never forget what happened to us--by the Mormons.
