So, the motors have not turned in the old Saab Trollhättan plant since 2011. It seems the Swedes have no true desire to build Saabs - under the terms given and the resources available.

So what do you guys think of Saabs in general? There may lie hope for the old mark elsewhere.

    Spyker, Dutch company.
GM blocked the sale to the Chinese as SAAB used their technology.

Aren't they still making aircraft? Which is what they did first IIRC.

The car division was sold to GM, then to Spyker, then closed down.
    The aircraft company was separate.

Saab is one of my favourite car makers. My dad had a 9000 Turbo when I was a kid and it was a stunning car. I remember falling asleep in the back leather seats with the sound of the turbo when we passed an other car on the highway.

Top Gear's tribute to Saab is very accurate :

Well , Saab was always ahead of the competition with their quirky design and advanced technology , and then General Motors bought Saab , and Saab good image and reliability vanished ..Here in OZ , Saab was well liked until the late 80's early 90's ...

Other than the old 900 convertible, I can't say that I really liked Saab cars. I just couldn't warm up to the quirky design.

After GM bought them, they lost all of their identity and became just a name plate slapped on a rehashed GM car.

    Saa-vrolet SUV was so pointless.

I'll make the exception for the Saab-uru. Basically a Subaru WRX with a nicer interior and not so bad exterior.
