Democrats move forward with repeal of rest of DOMA

Democratic lawmakers have re-introduced a bill that would allow legally married same-sex couples to receive federal benefits whether their state recognized same-sex marriage or not following the victories in the US Supreme Court

Great! Though expect fierce opposition from Republicans, who will fabricate all kinds of "defense of marriage" arguments, and ignore Sen. Feinstein's excellent explanation of how unfair and discriminatory the remaining DOMA provisions are. But it's clear Republicans aren't really dealing with logic on this matter, but emotions that lead them to seek any way to hurt LGBT, and deny us any relief from discimination.

I must have gotten swept away by this as I hadn't realized that not all of DOMA was stricken by the court.

I love that the new legislation is called the Respect for Marriage Act; that ought to be part of your title.

Let's make a little correction to 'SOME Republicans'.

It's time to just let it go and deal with it. Homosexual marriage is here .... whether it take 90 days or two more years ... it's here .... done ..... nearly over. To my life long party .... just let it go.

DEMOCRATS who voted for DOMA (yes, DEMOCRATS voted for it) Now Laud Its End

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling striking down the Defense of Marriage Act “a great, historic day for equality in America.”

He went on: “The idea that allowing two loving, committed people to marry would have a negative impact on anyone else, or on our nation as a whole, has always struck me as absurd.”

Pretty strong words from a guy who voted for the Defense of Marriage Act.

But Reid isn’t the only one. There was a long line of prominent Democrats Wednesday who all queued up to applaud the Supreme Court for striking down DOMA — even though they voted for it when it passed in 1996.

^ Really? You mean times have changed since 1996? How shocking.

How many Republicans didn't vote for DOMA in 1996, or voted for it but now support marriage equality? Hmmm, precious precious few.

Let's vote for the party that's CONSISTENTLY against us rather than the one that's coming around at the speed of light. Yeah, that'll get us there faster. icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif

And now some homophobic Republican just introduced the Federal Marriage Amendment to ban gay marriage with a constitutional amendment.

the US really should set up a two part government. Pick 10 blowhards on each side to whine and bloviate on the merits of gay marriage, abortion, gun control, healthcare and church&state and let them spin a wheel every week to pick which one they are going to go on and on about...and let the other 95% of the government actually do something USEFUL...like dealing with how they are going to claim bankruptcy if they dont start making a job easier to get, and raising taxes back to reagan levels to pay off the debt.

    sure, we'll take that

"In 1981, Reagan significantly reduced the maximum tax rate, which affected the highest income earners, and lowered the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 50%; in 1986 he further reduced the rate to 28%."

Here or not. I'm just happy my life is in such a good place, that it's not an issue for us; my man and I. We know you don't have to be married to love or to be love; nor is it something we need to do for status, as Art has done many times in the past; and what next time for you will be something special; icon_lol.gif wasn't the full orchestra then riding off in the sunset on a motorbike enough for you mate. maybe you should take yourself off your pedestal MRS Bucket, and see you are no better than those you behold so much contempt for. Oh homosexual marriage may be on the way, but bisexuals have been doing it for ever; and more than once. sadly with people like Art it has to do more with status than it does love.

Oh Bobby and lets not overlook the fact that DOMA was a democrats brainchild/creation; yet you want to lay all the blame on the republicans, just as you blame your ex wives for depriving YOU of true love' oph please.
