I am weight training as you all know but I hate protein shakes, I am also paranoid of letting myself walk home or anywhere hungry before I get to make myself something healthy to fill my hunger.

I don't eat Junkfood anymore either obviously.

Instead of going into stores and buying a candybar, I go in and by £1 packets of 8 slices of ham(I know someone's got sherry in mind now) or packets of chicken slices or low fat cheese slices and other high protein foods as well as yogurt, and yes, I also snack on fruit, but that's not weird to eat while walking in public I believe.

I know I am taking this protein/healthy eating don't ever let yourself go hungry mentality a little too far, but I like doing it.

Main reason is that most food in shops are candy and crisps and other crap, they should have ham bars and lean chicken bars or something. I don't like protein bar's either.

So basically I am walking through the streets of my city on my daily route eating ham slices and turkey slices with my hands.

    Is this inappropriate in public?

No, but if you feel self conscious you could always roll up the meat and eat it in a lettuce leaf.

I don't understand how it would be inappropriate unless you look like some sort of vagabond while you eat.

I saw a girl walking around drinking a bottle of coffee mate creamer.. I'd say that was inappropriate

    But hey.. free country. icon_idea.gif

Drink water ... you won't get hungry ... if you are getting hungry your stomache is confuse as to what your brain is telling it .... if you are getting hungry in the middle of the day from eating regularly, then what your body is really craving is water.

If you're self conscious about eating in public you must not be hungry enough! Just messin' with ya, but there is some truth to that. I've become known as "that guy" that's always eating. I use to feel the same way about eating in every class.

Embrace it. Eventually people will ask you to finish their food for them. icon_lol.gif (but seriously, free food!)

Eating while walking in Europe is verboten. Haven't you ever read Judith Krantz's "Scruples?" Heroine Winnie Winthrop went from piggy fat to model thin and bagged a billionaire since she couldn't snack while walking unsupervised in public because that would've been considered declasse. So if you want to be the next Mrs. Barry Diller drop that idea now.

lol, well with that last post you just answered the following question:

    "Is this inappropriate in public?"

    ...see your 1st post. icon_wink.gif

To you it is clearly inappropriate, to most others, it isn't.

a candy bar or a banana in public walking is okay.

But If I saw someone walking around eating a block of cheese I would think that person is alittle unetiquette and has strange eating habits.

Another reason for my strange eating habits is that I no longer eat bread because of it's badness....

So it's not like I can buy a cheese and ham sandwich, I am literally buying packets of roast beef cuts and consuming them by themselves.

It's always inappropriate to eat that much sodium in public. What if a child saw you? Some role model you are. icon_neutral.gif

NO EATING ON MUNI OR BART!!!!

Unless it's really nommy. Then share. :-) jaja!

Seriously, I won't eat on bus or subway. Too many germs, viri, and I usually don't have enough to share with everybody. Also, I generally try not to eat on the plane unless the flight is longer than 6 hours. I will eat in public (outside of a restaurant) depending upon the food and the circumstance. I do share with the homeless. They are people too and need food and love.

I hope you properly disposed of the peel. Someone could slip on it.

LOL. Years ago, I had a totally ripped guy as a summer intern... sorta looked like that Taylor Lautner kid, but MUCH more ripped. He basically carried a backpack of food around with him 24/7 and ate every 30 minutes or so. I swear, that guy was either eating or brushing and flossing his teeth every waking minute, unless he was working out.

Most people, on encountering him for the first time, would just stare at his body and not notice the eating thing, unless they got to know him.

It is ok, and yes, in the US we will walk, drive, talk, and run while eating just about anything....even sometimes eating a large turkey on the subway. I've eaten entire fast food dinners while walking from the establishment back to my dorm room/apt/house.

oh puh-leeze, if you're gonna eat you're gonna eat. There are plenty of actions FAR more disagreeable. Like going to the grocery store in a mumu and hair rollers, or walking around wearing clothes that literally look like they've served as bibs for a baby (bear in mind the difference between food-stained clothing and grease-stained clothing...), or buying into that whole "wear an outfit that has the same neon color on each piece (shirt, shorts, socks, shoes)" fad. If your body needs it, feed it! There are plenty of people walking around eating over-processed, chemical-laden junk food as it is. We could use some responsible folk walking around showing off an alternative.
