Are there any gay friendly beaches in Central New York?

Hello everyone. Having just moved to Syracuse, I find myself desperately in need of going outside and getting some melanin by means of UVB melanogenesis, preferably on a beach. Do y'all know of any gay friendly beaches near Syracuse?

Well, not exactly. There aren't any "gay beaches" here per se since most of them are at state parks. Having said that however, there are lots of places to go.

Green Lakes State park is very nice, though can be very crowded sometimes. It's the closest for me so it's where I hang out weather & time permitting. I think 'parking' is up to $8.00 at NYS parks now, but if you walk or bicycle in it's free.

Jamesville Beach and Oneida Shores are operated by Onondaga County Parks. They're okay....

Sylvan Beach on Oneida lake can be a very happening place with the waterfront bars, amusement park, and various other goings on. It tends to attract the partying crowd more.

Probably the "gayest" beach in the area is Southwick Beach State Park, on Lake Ontario near Ellisburg. When you get to the beach there is the usual guarded areas with kids etc and the usual state park b.s. rules. Turn left and head south. The beach runs a couple of miles, with dunes and everything. Guys will walk down quite a ways and hang outicon_biggrin.gif While technically illegal there are nude sunbathers there- I've always just worn a thong and never been bothered. There are some drawbacks however. If you're planning on staying a while you've got to tote in enough water for the day. There's poison ivy everywhere, so be careful if you leave the immediate beach area. The deer ticks are rampant, watch out for them. And it's about a 70 mile drive from Syracuse up I-81.

    Hope this helps.

    Peace.

    Mike

This is the one major disadvantage of upstate New York especially during the warm summer months. There are no true gay beaches. Almost all the public beaches are family oriented with all those pain in the ass, screaming little brats running roughshod over everyone. I wish there were gay and adult oriented beaches in upstate New York, especially near my hometown of Buffalo. But unfortunately, there isn't much of anything.icon_sad.gif

Sounds like your best bet is the back yard, or if you don't have one, the back yard of a friend. If you don't have one of those, then walking around shirtless may be a start.

Did I miss the memo where word 'tan' is no longer viable?

Isn't there an airport in Syracuse? Flights to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Bermuda and San Juan are plentiful. You could go for the weekend.

You forgot one important little item, it costs a lot of money to fly to those tropical places. I guess we have to make do with the mediocre public beaches of upstate New York.

Yes, but not from Syracuse. You have to fly somewhere else first, then you can fly to Miami(104 days!)etc. It's a small regional airport and flights out of here tend to be rather expensive, and you have to go through a hub.

I think that the point is that a beach doesn't necessarily have to be "gay friendly", just a beach. I hang out at state park beaches in a speedo, and if you can't deal with it then that's your problem. I'm not running around waving a rainbow flag but nobody's ever bothered me!

Just grab some friends and go to the beach. If it ever stops raining around here, that is.

I agree with Sungod, Lake Ontario is going to be the most "beachy" you can find around here.

You can always go up the SU and sunbathe in on of the parks there. Might see some eye candy, too ;)

Most likely around Rochester and Oswego, you will find hot eye candy along the beaches of Lake Ontario. To the west of the Rochester Metro Area in rural Orleans and Niagara Counties forget about it. Its all right wing rednecks and beer swilling cigarette smoking fat slobs. Lake Erie between Buffalo and Dunkirk is too polluted and smelly. I am stuck going to Delaware Park in Buffalo which is very boring.

Really, if your set on a "gay" beach then your best bet is to make the drive to Southwick and be prepared to hike a ways. Obviously, you'll find the most guys on weekends. At least that's how it used to be- I haven't been there in a few years.

If your planning on sunbathing nude while there be aware that there are beach patrols, but as I said earlier they've never bothered me for wearing a thong.

I'm off from work this week and I'm hoping the weather clears up enough for me to hit Green Lakes!

    Peace.

I'm sure he doesn't have to come all the way to Toronto to get fucked by a creepy guy in the bushes.
