    Great thread concept. One place I can make in an hour (traffic permitting) is Vizcaya, south of Miami. Once the home of a bachelor businessman alleged to have been gay, it's now a museum and gardens open to the public.

    Only a couple minutes away is the Park River (Hog River) which was covered up underground in Hartford back in 1940. It is a very cool paddling trip.
