Now, I get an occasional email from guys casually introducing themselves, saying hi, or giving a compliment. It's nice, and it feels good. Who doesn't like hearing from people, especially when they have something nice to say? And if its from someone you'd naturally be drawn to, even better.

So today I log in and notice some really hot guy had recently viewed my profile and had a 'mail (1)' notification. Thinking, wouldn't it be great if...

Low and behold, a new mail message from the hot guy!

Now, curious what could this man possibly say to me, I open the message.

The man claims a shameless self promotion and asks for a vote for man of the day.

Is that common? Do you get those emails? Would you just say fuck it and give the vote? Or purposefully vote for another just because?

I won't vote for anyone that is promoting himself and asking for a vote. If it is someone I know is promoting a buddy I will consider that vote.

btw...About your post, is that how the person currently in the lead overtook the person now in second who had been in the lead most of the day?

It's all just in fun. I'd vote for him if I liked him, knew him, agreed with his contributions in Forums, or his lifestyle - his profile. And if they're over 40 and still working hard to stay in shape, that's something I'll notice as well.

Just have fun with it. This isn't neuroscience. icon_cool.gif

No idea...I didn't cast a vote, nor have I ever voted for man of the day. icon_smile.gif

I wouldn't vote for anyone who was soliciting to be MOTD. That's a turn-off for me.

Never got this but I agree. Will not vote for someone self promoting. At the very least have a conversation with me once...

I will vote for someone else if their buddy asks though.

Me, too, if I already know the buddy. And a few times for the guy himself, when it was also a guy I already knew. Because I never follow MOTD on my own, somebody has to draw my attention to the contenders. And if it's somebody I know, or endorsed by a buddy, sure, I'll give him my vote.

This post really resonates with me. I've had it happen a few times but being the genuinely sweet guy that I am, I happily oblige to give them that vote. Besides, I will never be man of the day on this site, but I know I have it made just by getting messages from other guys on here. I guess what irks me more is when I send someone a message with a compliment and I don't get the decency of at least something like a standard thanks for flattering me mate but I'm not interested but thanks anyway for your nice compliment it made me smile. A shame we don't have much decency to type a small message like that when that other person probably mustered some courage to say something to you.

Yes, I have gotten some before. Turned out after I voted the guy was a total douche.

    Never again.

Now I have sent messages to people I am acquainted with asking them to vote for someone else.

Well, it seems to have worked. Definitely a spike in votes from earlier! A lot, actually. Hmmm...so take note anyone pining for MOTD...just email the whole site and ask a favor!

Campaigning for MOTD?! Man, I hope that doesn't become a new trend! That would get irritating fast. icon_eek.gif

I usually only vote for MOTD when someone I know is up there or someone who who is a regular contributor to the forums. (I like to promote the folks that keep the boards active and positive icon_biggrin.gif)

TheGuyNextDoor saidArgentinian though,... now, that's a good guy!

He is also polite- and sends an email to thank you after you vote for him.

I love Fede, he's one of the best guys on RJ that have never set foot in the message board.

He's got some passive-aggressive mannerisms that would keep me from ever casting my vote his way.

Ok ok I cast my first vote...for the Argentinian.

Yes, he's a very nice guy. I already voted for him. I think the current leader has already been MOTD within the past year. He deleted his account and created a new one. That's cheating.

Argentinian is extremely nice. My vote for sure.

The guy above him is the last person I would ever vote for. Seriously.

A lot of people seem to be saying very nice things about him and it confirms the sense I got from him on his presence on this site. If not today, I am pretty sure Argentinian will get it tomorrow.

I should also point out, I am not expecting a thank you email from everyone I give a vote to for motd. I was just pointing out the contrast of someone who sends a polite thank you compared to someone who sends an email begging for a vote.
