    Pescetarian here.

I can't imagine getting enough protein in my diet if I gave up fish, whey, yogurt, cottage cheese . . . .

You can. People tend to consume far too much protein than they need. The only way you can become deficient in protein is if you are starving yourself. At that point, you have a bigger problem.

    I'm a level 5 vegan, I don't eat anything that casts a shadow.

EDIT: jk, I'm actually lacto vegetarian (no eggs, but still have other animal products, particularly in my diet). I have not been fully convinced yet to become vegan.

that's a pretty ignorant statement to make.

you can get all the daily protein you need in a dish of chickpeas. & you wouldn't be getting all that cholesterol messing with your veins and arteries that you get when you have a dish of meat, eggs & cheese

stereotypes of vegans being weak and feeble is such a massive bs.

i've been trying this vegan diet for like 2 months now & i've never felt better than this. i even feel like i have more energy now than before

    also.
as much as i hate PETA i'm gonna have to post this pic just to point out that i have a friend that's been a vegan for 4 years & he looks exactly like this.
(well not as cute, but you get my point)

I've been vegetarian for 25 years. Vegan on and off but have been for the past few months. Always love the bashing... just shows how clueless some people are about nutrition.

Does this guy look like he's getting enough protein? He's vegan...

Vegan - no oil here, aka plant-based whole foods. Lots of strong opinions are out there, but if you care about nutrition, you will investigate.

Considering I haven't been twink's age in about 15-20 years, perhaps I should take that comment to mean I am youthful looking. Must be all the nutrient dense plant based food I eat.

But in all seriousness, the fact that you would make such an unprovoked comment to me speaks volumes. However, not surprising considering what I usually read on this site.

Just cause you post a shirtless picture of a bodybuilder that doesn't mean crap. The jersey shore guys look good with their shirts off yet are so unhealthy.
Anybody can be jacked on supplements but you can't beat Mother Nature forever.

I want to see lab tests!! Checking adrenal glands/ hormon function, gi screen checking for overgrowth of pathogens, yeast, fungus and or/parasites ( especially cause of the overload in carb consumption.)

    FYI plants are living too!!!

"Walter Russell said it beautifully in his description of the Love Principle (10). The microorganisms eat each other for the benefits of the grass (and plants), the zebra eats the grass, which serves him out of love, the lion eats the zebra, who serves him out of Love, the lion dies and feeds the microorganisms, serving them out of love and the whole cycle continues. The plant evolves through the zebra, the zebra evolves through the lion, and the lion evolves through the experience of its group soul.

yeah well. let's wait & see what the jersey shore guys look like when they're 50... if they live that long.
living on alcohol and fries will pretty much assassinate your liver in 5 years.

i find it hard to believe that a guy who publicly promotes veganism will use steroids or any other type of drugs for that matter.
if you think about it, becoming a vegan is often the result of wanting to adopt a healthier lifestyle. i highly doubt that people that want to start taking care of their bodies will replace meat & animal products with stuff that's even more damaging than that.

my granny has been a vegetarian all her life & she is 95 now. never even goes to the doc. never had a problem with yiests. lol

& that's a nice quote. but it doesn't really mention humans.

are you suggesting that we people should all behave as lions?

Are plants raised at factories were they're so miserable they peck each other to death and sit around in their own feces just waiting to get electrocuted so you can get 'em on your 5 dollar foot long?

Nice nature speech. Do you hunt and kill your food like those animals do or eat it after it's been rinsed with bleach at the Purdue factory?

    Everyone's wrong.

People do consume too much protein in general.

You don't get "cholesterol" from meat, eggs and cheese, exactly. Consumed cholesterol has little to do with blood lipid levels. Saturated fats can have adverse effects, but for most people it's the combination of too many carbs in their diet that makes the saturated fats dangerous. Limit the carbs, the saturated fats become mostly benign.

Lots of vegetarians/vegans eat WAY too many carbs.

Hey sweetheart ...nobody is saying to eat factory farmed food or gmo food.
I actually only eat grass fed organic beef. Same with my other meats and veggies. ... Only organic and humanely raised.

Something is wrong here when vegans have to take supplements for food they're not eating.

Again I'm not moving forward until my questions are answered.

    What about lab tests???
Are we going to ignore the adrenal glands and gi tract ???!?

    What about hydrochloric acid production?

And bullshit to the other guy..

Cholesterol does make your sex hormones
    http://metabolichealing.com/key-integrated-functions-of-your-body/hormone-and-endocrine/cholesterol-your-body-is-incapable-of-making-hormones-without-it-2/

And FYI I was vegetarian for 10 years.

Also...gorillas colon is 60% of their digestive tract and only 20% of ours. Its the colon in the digestive tract of primates that houses the bacteria that changes all that grass that gorillas eat into fatty acids. so at the end of the day the gorilla is still getting a high fat diet. as humans we dont have nearly the capacity that gorillas do to transform vegetation, esp cause most of us have comprimised gut flora.
Our colon is only 20% of our digestive tract and our livers are smaller as well, which means that we have much less of an ability to transform the food we eat. At the end of the day, all mammals require similar macronutrient ratios, we just have different strategies of getting there. the structure of mammal bodies is primarily fat and protein, and that fat and protein needs to be continuously replaced

Animal & fish proteins are complete proteins. I.E they contain all essential amino acids required by the human body. Most plant proteins are not complete. You can get complete proteins in a vegetarian meal by food combination. However a lot of vegetarians don't eat a wide enough variety of foods regularly or combine adequately in a meal to get that benefit. In addition a lot of vegetarians usually eat a narrow range of foods and end up with deficiencies.

Johnny_Sunshine saidyou wouldn't be getting all that cholesterol messing with your veins and arteries that you get when you have a dish of meat, eggs & cheese

Dietary cholesterol has almost no impact on blood cholesterol. The whole "don't eat foods that have cholesterol or else your cholesterol level will go up" is from the 1980's which has since been disproved but refuses to die.

i'm kinda tired of discussing this shit w/ people that really don't have a clue about what they're talking about.

my mom is a nutrionist and a dietitian.

she actually went to college to learn all about this shit, got her degree and is now allowed to legally charge money for the diets she makes for people.

she's been filling my brain with this shit since I was 8.

so you might try to fool people. but you're only making a fool of yourself.

why don't we start by defining what cholesterol is.

Cholesterol is a lipid (fat) which is produced by the liver. Cholesterol is vital for normal body function. Every cell in our body has cholesterol in its outer layer.

why is it that it can become a dangerous thing then. if it's part of the body?

because high levels of cholesterol in the body can only produce heart diseases, strokes and heart attack. nothing serious as you can see.

how can we get our cholesterol levels to be high and risk having atherosclerosis and a fckn heart attack.

by eating foods that contain a high level of cholesterol.

    such as.

from wiki (not the most reliable source of info, but i can't be bothered w/ googling this shit)

wikipediaall foods containing animal fat contain cholesterol to varying extents.[18] Major dietary sources of cholesterol include cheese, egg yolks, beef, pork, poultry, fish, and shrimp.[19] Human breast milk also contains significant quantities of cholesterol.[20]

cholesterol has everything to do with blood you dumbshit.

to put it in a nutshell so your little brain nut can understand.

sausages, red meat, cheese, butter and pretty much anything that looks like a fast food meal has high levels of cholesterol and saturated fats. that shit pretty much gets stuck in your veins.

you know what veins are? they're tubes that carry blood.

that shit gets in there and it clinges inside the veins obstructing the movement of blood.

when you eat enough of that shit you get so much of it in yout veins that you could say you literally have your veins full of fat. it literally blocks the flow of blood and then you die.

why do you think that 95% of the truck drivers die all of heart related diseases when they're 40.
