    Hi Friends!

I'm a university undergraduate currently doing an ethnography on gay men and the role of cosmetics in their lives. I would really appreciate some help from those of you who are willing to answer some of the following questions. No names will be used, no identities disclosed, and if anyone is particularly uncomfortable in posting answers as part of this message, please don't hesitate to message me your answers. Your participation in this study is greatly appreciated.

    Ready?

    Questions:
    1. As a gay man in America, are you comfortable using cosmetics/make-up?
    2. Do you use cosmetics/make-up?
    3. If YES,
    - Why did you begin to use cosmetics/make-up?
    - When did you begin to use them?
    - Do you still use them?
    4. If NO,
    - Why not?
    - Have you ever, at any point in your life, tried to use cosmetics/make-up?
    5. What does "homosexuality" mean to you? From your perspective, what does it mean to be a gay man in America?

For all of you who have taken the time to answer, thank you so much.icon_biggrin.gif

I have some questions for you first.

    Are you gay?

Why have you no photo in your profile?

Why have you no information in your profile?

Even if you're not gay, you are welcome here, but there has been a few gay bashers signing up to this site in the last few days, so I'm a little suspicious of photo-less profiles with no information in them.

    1. As a gay man in America, are you comfortable using cosmetics/make-up?
Eh...if I have to. I.E. for acting, going on tv, etc.

    2. Do you use cosmetics/make-up?
    No

    3. If YES,
    - Why did you begin to use cosmetics/make-up?
    - When did you begin to use them?
    - Do you still use them?
    4. If NO,
    - Why not?
    Beauty is in imperfection!

    - Have you ever, at any point in your life, tried to use cosmetics/make-up?
Besides wearing it for theater, no

    5. What does "homosexuality" mean to you? From your perspective, what does it mean to be a gay man in America? Lol. It means I'm into other men. Simple as that. I don't wear my sexuality on my sleeve and am fine with that.

Yes. And I apologize if any of the questions have offended you or others. As I've said before, these are questions that are part of my research study. They are not meant to offend, discriminate, or seem stereotypical.

    No, I am not gay.
I have not considered placing a photo in my profile.
I have no information because I haven't had time to plug any in. I have been monitoring many other forums I belong to and collecting data for this study.

    C'mon guys, play along icon_biggrin.gif

    1. As a gay man in America, are you comfortable using cosmetics/make-up?

Cosmetics (i.e. zit cream) yes, make-up, no.

    2. Do you use cosmetics/make-up?

    zit cream

    3. If YES,
    - Why did you begin to use cosmetics/make-up?
    - When did you begin to use them?
    - Do you still use them?

    4. If NO,
    - Why not?

I feel it's unbecoming for a man to be so insecure to believe he can only go out in public all "done up" in products normally only used for the opposite gender. As a halloween gag, have at it! Gender bending is perfect as an element of humor or entertainment (Monty Python nailed it)

    - Have you ever, at any point in your life, tried to use cosmetics/make-up?

    nope

    5. What does "homosexuality" mean to you? From your perspective, what does it mean to be a gay man in America?

    a) Homosexual = having sexual relations exclusively or largely with members of the same gender.

    b) To me, sex is sex and anyone who's got too much time on their hands to either publicly advertise their sexuality (i.e. fairies) or criminalize another's sexuality should be neutered.

Let us know what the results of your guys' study is!

Well since you need gay men in America I can't answer your questions, as I don't enter into all those categories.

    That's right I'm not a man! icon_surprised.gif

I use skin lotion, especially for rosacea on my face, but just a basic guy approach otherwise.

    5. What does "homosexuality" mean to you? From your perspective, what does it mean to be a gay man in America? Being gay in America means living in a constant state of legal limbo with respect to employment and civil rights.

Sorry for asking those questions. I'm usually very cooperative, but we had some bashers setup accounts on here at the same time you setup your account. So sorry.

You're welcome here. I see you are a girl, and I think that is a first for RJ icon_smile.gif You don't need to have a photo of yourself in your profile. At least not for me you don't. So I hope you are not doing it because of me icon_question.gif But if you are comfortable enough to do it then, great.

If your questions are just for Americans, then I'm out because I'm Irish. But I would be happy to answer if not.

    1. As a gay man in America, are you comfortable using cosmetics/make-up?
Only for professional reasons or hallowe'en

    2. Do you use cosmetics/make-up?
No makeup. Yes to moisturizer in winter and sunblock in summer. Also, self-tanner now and then, to change the gray pallor.

    3. If YES,
    - Why did you begin to use cosmetics/make-up?
    - When did you begin to use them?
    - Do you still use them?

    4. If NO,
    - Why not?
    - Have you ever, at any point in your life, tried to use cosmetics/make-up?

    I'm a natural.

    5. What does "homosexuality" mean to you? From your perspective, what does it mean to be a gay man in America?

Homosexuality is same-sex attraction. "Gay", to me, is a social identity, not a sexual one. It means owning your sexual identity as a homosexual and happily claiming it publicly, socially and politically, for what it's worth.

    1) Only as part of a Halloween costume
    2) No
    4) I have no interest in it. If I want to look better, I'll work out or do a better job shaving.
    5) Homosexuality is a sexual orientation by which your sexual desires involve other members of your own sex, not the other. As a gay man, that means I'd rather take a shower with Brad Pitt than Angelina Jolie.

    1. Cosmetics and makeup? No - tons of moisturizer though - every day - all over. (Lubriderm, Neutrogena, Creme de la mer, and other stuff I can't remember the names of).

    2. Homosexuality - what it means to me........ I am into guys - not girls - plain and simple. A preference. If I see a good looking couple for instance, it would be the guy who would command my attention - sexually.

What is the name of your university? This study is going to be published in what?

Guys, let's not turn a great site into a marketing research facility. Should be ignored unless full details of this 'legitimate study' are made available and verified.
