I did, but both my senators (Levin and Stabenow) and my representative (the other Levin) would have voted that way anyway.

I am curious -- how could the SCOTUS strike down Section 3 without striking down all of the damn thing? Aren't they interrelated?

Someone in the know, please explain?

I think what Edie Windsor was suing about, the tax on inheriting her house from her partner, was contained within Section 3. Section 2 was that no state could be forced to recognize a marriage from another state. Edie Windsor and her partner were married in Canada and the state of New York recognized it, so there would be no reason to sue on that point. And this is all there is to section 1: "This Act may be cited as the "Defense of Marriage Act".

I'm in the same boat with respect to Levin and Stabenow, but my representative Tim Wahlberg (bought and paid for by the Club for Growth) is a hopeless case. I'm focusing my energy on the state level, trying to make the teabaggers irrelevant and supporting the legal efforts in federal courts.

I think you should send him the email anyway.

I think both NY senators are on board with this, but I'm not sure about my representative. I sent the email anyway- one more voice to the chorus!
