It doesn't work that way anymore. Even if you start out in the Arts and Entertainment you have to pick a category or it goes to All Things Gay. It's been messing me up too.

So is "All- American" subjective or is it a term society has constructed to mean one specific look.

Why are you asking questions you already know the answer.

Do you really think you or I would ever be considered 'All American'? They mean all white.

Some people don't count Chely because she was closeted for most of her career. Although to some of her credit a few of her songs before she came out could of easily applied to a woman which in some maybe she was. She had a lot of courage to come out considering she could of lost everything has seemed to be exiled among the country music community.

^ A Russian communist would be mistaken for "All American" before a true red blooded american born citizen this day in age.

wtf am I talking about this day in age?... It's always been like that. icon_lol.gif

That just shows you the irony of the term.

Reading the comments on that page is hilarious. I want to ask this question: If no one knew what he looked like would people still be saying how 'fresh and original' this is?

Hmmm...the the term is being used in reference to a country/western singer. Are there any black country/western singers?

'All American'...when I was a kid that was John Wayne and Sidney Poitier. But then, this is Canada.

True. It just shows the mired racial history of America and how despite us being here longer than probably most of his ancestors we still aren't considered American even though our ancestors built this damn country.

Charlie Pride comes to mind. Darius Rucker crossed over to country in recent years.

Probably not. The song itself is kinda blah. Just another pop song with a country twist. Perfect fodder for an episode of Glee.

It is. The video is pretty every gay work of fiction put to music. It's not telling us anything new.

I'm glad somebody else said it, because the song is rather *yawn*. Also, he might be an "openly gay country singer," but this is not going to be played on CMT or country music radio stations. It's not marketed to a general audience. It's marketed specifically to gay men and will be played at gay bars that have country nights and remixes at gay clubs. He will probably make appearances at gay clubs and pride festivals around the country and unlikely to be opening for Alan Jackson.
