That's because liberals want to change the status quo.

    That implies that conservatives don't.

Isn't that the very definition of a conservative: conserving or keeping things the way they are (or going back to a previous era)?

It would be wouldnt it? But in practice its often more complicated: conservatives are not interested in conserving resources, but in economic development. Progressives are more interested in resource conservation.

So, in other words, liberals are just as proud of their heritage when their country is doing good in the world but critical of their country's failings when they know it can do better, whereas conservatives are simply less proud of gay pride parades. Thanx for quantifying that for us.

By the title of this thread you would think there was going to be some enormous difference between Republicans and Democrats, but is 93% to 85%. A very huge majority of both parties are proud to be Americans. Very typical of Southbeach threads- designed not to create discussion, but instead arguments and drama.

Why would you be proud of your gun toting, oil snorting backwater?

You should be proud, and also self critical, and also proud that you're self critical; it's this that makes the USA so great.

The difference is between pride or proud. Gay pride is not about being proud of any particular sexual orientation which is merely a matter of fact but of not being shamed by our sexual orientation.

Similarly, the pride of being self critical is called being unafraid to know and acknowledge (& thereby be able to correct for) shame which very well could register in a poll as being less proud.

It's the difference between a dog peeing on the carpet and knowing and showing that it did wrong or a dog peeing on the carpet and bringing you over to see what a wonderful thing it just did.

Some of the liberals don't realize how well off they have it in this great country.

"but of not being shamed by our sexual orientation."

    That's reasonable IMO
