    Show me the bones?

Had only she looked around while sticking her head up her ass, she wouldn't have had to ask.

    Hey, Wendy...

I got through only a few minutes of that interview. It's too painful.

I only watched the beginning so far and she makes perfect sense to me. I think the guy needs to get slapped much more.
I'm not campaigning which theory is right or wrong because I think all present explanations are sloppy but, having studied evolution for a long time, I was disappointed to find so many spots that just didn't make sense - so many explanations that were fudged.
She's right to say people should be given all the facts and he's wrong to say there is no controversy.
It's not called "the theory of evolution" for no reason.
After all, we don't call it the "theory of gravity."

    http://thehappyscientist.com/science-experiment/gravity-theory-or-law
So when we are scientifically discussing gravity, we can talk about the law that describes the attraction between two objects, and we can also talk about the theory that describes why the objects attract each other.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_as_fact_and_theory
The scientific definition of the word "theory" is different from the colloquial sense of the word. In the vernacular, "theory" can refer to guesswork, a simple conjecture, an opinion, or a speculation that does not have to be based on facts and need not be framed for making testable predictions.

However, in science, the meaning of theory is more rigorous. A scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment

    From my Christian perspective:

I wonder if it's ever occurred to this woman and her ilk that evolution is a snap of a celestial finger and child's play for an omniscient god.

Had I been there I would have asked how she knows God didn't create evolution? What a wonderful thing for us, to be able to explore the mechanisms which god created to run creation, eh? *eye twinkle*

It was funny when she talked herself into his argument then had to backtrack.

whenever she ran out of answer she changed the subject. I LOLed at him pointing out her genetic argument against evolution was actually the argument FOR evolution. (she promptly changed the subject)

then when she almost used the word "evolve" but replaced it clumsily with "progress" icon_lol.gif

I dont know how to reply to this nonsense without sounding like an asshole...

You should know the difference between scientific theory and fairy tales. The word "theory" in science refers to events that have been consistently confimed through observation and experiment. Scientific theory works solely through inductive logic. God and creationism is not scientific theory, it cant be observed let alone predict through repeated experiment just like Santa Claus, , Zeus and Thor. These all are equally probable. If you completely abandon reasoning and logic, I can see why you would say something so uninformed as what you just said. Furthermore, evolution is a fact, not a fairy tale, scientific theories rely on a factual foundation not just pure speculation. It isnt hard to prove it is a fact, it is quite easy by observing fossils all the way from the pre-cambrian. If you can find a single fossil in the wrong geological time, evolution will be proved invalid. That is all it takes, and that hasnt happened. Evolution is so obvious that most popes and cardinals fully support it even when it comes into conflict with their religion. It is just sad that there are people out there that grew up in places where they were deprived of all logical analysis and critical thinking. Hopefully that will change in the future, religion is just down right child abuse.

    I'm sorry but what?

Evolution despite whether you think it's a perfect theory or not (do not debate what theory means in this instance) it at least has a lot of science and research backing it. Creationism is about the equivalent of taking stories about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny making up science about it. Creationism is nothing but saying 'see this thing science says well God did it and here's the bible to back it up'.

I don't believe I made any comments about creationism and only an unimaginative person would think it's either one or the other.

The trouble with the world today is that we haven't been sacrificing virgins!!! We're supposed to be tossing them into volcanoes. Do you guys know how fucking dangerous this is???

But in all seriousness, for me, the take away from the video is how to form a society that accepts Darwinism as science, without letting the rich exploit the poor, and the powerful trump the weak. After all, in nature, it is survival of the fittest. If you're weak, you're killed, and there is no social justice in the sense that we wish to strive for. My bleeding heart liberal side is inexplicable in a Darwinian world.

In the new Superman movie, one of the villains tells Superman that his morality is an evolutionary weakness, and over the arc of the story Superman is forced to become a killer, and kill Zod. How do we as a society satisfy our weakness for one another, while being strong enough to survive? It's our greatest conundrum. It's the reason we create a creator. You see, we weren't created in God's image. God was created in our image, in our wishes to be loving, and loved, in a world that is heartless and brutal.

Darwin retracted "survival of the fittest."
He said he meant "survival of the most adaptable."

Then religion has to adapt if it wants to survive. It cannot hold on to the oppressive views that society has shunned. Being progressive is not only wise, but inevitable.

If you dont understand what scientific theory is, you either didnt go to school or you went to the wrong school. If you've actually studied evolution like you so claim to have, you wouldn't be talking so much shit.

No public figure will be liked by all, I dont agree with Dawkins all the time but for the most part I do and I also admire his passion to teach and promote what is true.

note: He is also incredibly patient. I wouldnt be able to talk to that dumb woman for more than a minute.
