The Dan Savages of the world condemn Catholic pederasty; silent about it among their own ranks

"In those days [circa 2006], gay activists could pillory the Vatican over child molestation, because the gay community was shielded from scrutiny over its own sex abuse problems."

Nobody in the gay "community" is responsible for something that another member does. Are straight people responsible for things their neighbour's children's teacher does?

The Catholic church will oust a priest for having sex with a woman and protect a priest for molesting children. It's sick.

Aristoshark saidOh my, another right-wing troll.

Yeah, lots of questionable numbers and even more questionable assertions. And even if the gay community has "sex abuse problems", to equate them to the systematic and orchestrated sex coverups of the Roman Catholic Church is ludicrous. The Church in the US has paid out $3 billion so far in settlements for its crimes, whereas I'm not aware of any similar settlements brought against the gay community.

But while we're at it, how come the straight community isn't to blame for not coming out against the straight pedophiles, who molest more US children every year than gays do? Yep, right-wing trollery at work here again. icon_razz.gif

" The records from his old diocese in Milwaukee show he authorized pay-offs to child-rapist priests to encourage them to leave the ministry. (In the Catholic hierarchy, you don’t report rapists to the police; you eventually offer them financial incentives to leave.) "

Files released by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee on Monday reveal that in 2007, Cardinal Timothy F. Dolan, then the archbishop there, requested permission from the Vatican to move nearly $57 million into a cemetery trust fund to protect the assets from victims of clergy sexual abuse who were demanding compensation.

Cardinal Dolan, now the archbishop of New York, has emphatically denied seeking to shield church funds as the archbishop of Milwaukee from 2002 to 2009. He reiterated in a statement Monday that these were “old and discredited attacks.”

However, the files contain a 2007 letter to the Vatican in which he explains that by transferring the assets, “I foresee an improved protection of these funds from any legal claim and liability.

" the gay community was shielded from scrutiny over its own sex abuse problems."

The Gay Community does not have a CARDINAL assigned to protect our collective assets from the victims of sexual abuse.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DOES. CARDINAL TIMOTHY DOLAN

"when it comes to questions of how he handled and cosseted child-rapists under his jurisdiction in Milwaukee. We now know he deliberately sequestered church assets so he could argue he had no more funds to compensate those raped by his subordinates. He was once again putting the institutional church’s interests above those of the raped. And he seems to be able to lie about all of it – in the face of massive evidence – with nary a flicker of hesitation."

Of course it's sick. This is why JP2, as much as he is to be admired, is also to be excoriated for his fecklessness.

But the gay community is no better for using the issue as cover. Expose it all, no matter where it is.

Another pedophilia/abuse issue being given convenient cover is that occurring in public schools. Just as government agencies do not want to be perceived as homophobic by taking a strong stance against homo-pedophilia, they also don't want to run afoul of educational unions.

A pox on all houses everywhere until they all clean it up.

Dan Savage serves as a sort of de facto cardinal for the gay white Left, does he not? (Mickey Signorilie is all kinds of J.)

Anyway, I do not disagree with you in any way. The Church's malfeasance and ineptitude in dealing with the issue is inexcusable.

But let us "think critically," shall we?

Show me a religion with no pederasty in its upper ranks and I'll show you oceanfront property at the top of Mt. Everest.

    Hmmm...unverified and blank profile.

I suggest you do some actual research before making claims or insinuations that 'the gay community' (whatever that is because gay is pandemographic right across all communities and cultures)has an equivalent problem as the church.

You might start here; something simple:

You haven't exposed anything in the gay community. What has the community ever done that would lead you to believe we have anything in common with the Catholic church? Name one instance where the leaders in the gay community have lied to the public to protect criminals of any kind. Btw, who are the leaders?? Dan Savage is a celebrity. I could write a book about Catholics, and say whatever I want, but that doesn't mean I'm a leader. The gay community is just an umbrella statement for anyone who is gay. It's not a church. You're comparing apples to oranges here.

It's a matter of "thinking critically." Look at all sides.

    thesis + / - antithesis = synthesis

Is anybody else fascinated by the amount of money the Vatican has?

    We should invade them.

...and we should invade local rectories too. The freezers are loaded with baking from old church ladies. I stayed with a gay priest while running a race and was shocked. If there is ever a natural disaster invade the church!icon_lol.gif

Neither does hanging on every word of Dan Savage.
