Yay its that time of year again, nearly RAMADAN! icon_biggrin.gif

What do you enjoy about this period? What do you hope to gain?

Personally, I love Ramadan, I never seem to be stressed or depressed, feel closer to God and generally happy even if I am damn hungry haha. Its my favourite part of the Islamic life =)

Going to be tough this year though icon_razz.gif

This is totally inappropriate. Even most of the more conservative Muslims oppose terrorism. And Muslim guys that you see on here will likely be among the more liberal.

Back to the original topic: I didn't realize Ramadan was in the summer. Not a nice time to only be allowed to eat after sundown...

(And to be clear, I'm not a Muslim, I just really hate Islamophobia.)

You do the same: Canadian Islamic Congress: Better to be Safe than Sorry . This is the largest association of mosques in Canada and is actually a fairly conservative organization. I don't like them much for the most part, but on this at least they take a responsible position.

it actually is based on the alignment of the moon, so changes year after year.

Right, I knew that actually. Just wasn't thinking. How much does it vary over the years?

christians and athiests are just as bad. Just cut it out man, it's not classy and it makes you less relatable as a conservative.

I am not Muslim but have friends who are and I have studied the culture/religion icon_biggrin.gif

Ramadan is a very important and great time for Muslims to really connect with God. I don't see Christians and Jews going through this for a month. Most people don't even take Lent seriously

Shame people came on this thread and made stupid, uneducated jokes

Joey -- You wrote: Ramadan is a very important and great time for Muslims to really connect with God. I don't see Christians and Jews going through this for a month. Most people don't even take Lent seriously

I won't speak for the Christians, but just wanted to share that in Judaism the entire month of Elul, the last month of the Hebrew calendar, is a time of reflection and taking stock leading into the "10 Days of Repentance" from Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement --- All in all a 40 day sequence -- longer if you count the week long harvest festival of Sukkot that starts shortly after the 25-hour Yom Kippur fast concludes...

It's great that you're sharing a positive impression of the Muslim tradition of Ramadan, but let me suggest that it's not necessary to belittle other religions when you're doing so.

[Editing this about an hour later -- Hey Joey, I hope you won't take offense. I know you meant well in your post.]
