he should have thought about the consequences before he decided to get into the porn business. which world is he living in where he thinks pornography isn't frowned upon or stigmatized. people DO use that against you whether you're gay or straight. don't see what the problem is here. it's also annoying seeing other gay people ready to make this guy into being a victim when HE'S NOT.

Noticed how you contradicted yourself there in the same paragraph? "Porn is stigmatized" and "he's not a victim". Of course he is a victim. He is a victim of closed mindedness. Whether it is because he did gay porn is irrelevant and was not implied - you assumed it, but WTF does ballet have to do with porn? ... I mean, for god's sake. Go look up nude ballet on youtube. And go look at guys in tights with huge lunch boxes on the stage. It is pure hypocrisy. What anyone does in expressing their sexuality has nothing to do with getting an education / training.

Next time I get pulled over for reckless driving I will just sue the police and city claiming they were dampening my artistic expression on the roads.

I have to agree with earlier posters that this guy is not a victim. No one forced him to do porn it was his choice. I wish I could say that we live in a society where porn isn't frowned upon but unfortunately we still do. And he as a thinking adult has to know how his career as a porn star would be seen by others. He's not a victim, and the same thing would've happened had he been straight.

If he was kicked out of school for doing porn (I didn't watch the video) then he *IS* a victim, IMO.

I would agree it's not a "gay" issue.
It *is* an issue of illegitimate stigmatization and reprisal.
Doing porn doesn't make him any less able of doing/studying ballet. Hence: none of their business.

    Anti-sodomy laws:
Response: no one forced them to have sex with eachother.

    Anti-miscegeny laws:
Response: no one forced them to get married.

    Anti-____ religion laws:
Response: no one forced them to become _____ religion.

The fact that porn is "socially unacceptable" does not make kicking them out of a program because of it acceptable. It does not make having a contract that says "no porn" (if there is one) any more acceptable than one that says "no going to jewish temple" in the 50's.

    It is injust.
And he is not to be faulted because, "well, duh, you knew people would be upset".

if their student's behavior out of the school affects the reputation of the school itself then YES, it is THEIR business

While I appreciate your point all that does is allow one groups' prejudice to legitimize another's.

Apply the same logic to homosexual relations.
There are many places where having a gay employee hurts a business's reputation.
That does *NOT* legitimize firing the employee.

I'm not really sure why this made the news. Still, I'm grateful that I found this very hot guy to look up icon_twisted.gif Who'd have thought I'd get a tip on some porn from CBC?

Also, my impression is that this wasn't because he was doing gay porn but because he was doing porn period. From the CBC article on this I couldn't even tell that it was gay porn until I saw what company he was working for. And that was only because I'd seen their videos.

If he's any good at either endeavor, he won't need the school at all to make bank.

The school has a reputation it wishes to maintain. Furthermore, it is in a profession/art that demands a particular high sense of class, sophistication, culture, artistry and integrity. For most, porn reflects the opposite of those aspirations. (Is this "porn being stigmatized"? Is there a convincing argument that porn is equally a high-quality, sophisticated art form to ballet?)

Unfortunately, the young man's choice does not reflect what the profession aspires to uphold, embody, and be. He made his choice, took his chances, and lost out failing to understand what his professional choice was all about. There is no victim here when you choose your own fate, albeit in ignorance. Unfortunate, yes. It's one of life's many lessons.

Shawnathan saidImagine if all schools kicked guys out for doing porn. There would be no Broke College Boys porn.

He doesn't use the gay card, he just talks about getting kicked out for doing porn, which shouldn't happen. However, they do have a policy that all work be approved by the school, so theoretically they would have kicked him out for working at Tim Hortons without asking first.

Is Tim Horton's some sort of men's brothel or something?

wait wut. he considers this a legitimate art - OK cool. he knows his school has a policy requiring side projects to be approved. participating in a legitimate art form where you get paid seems like a side project. didn't get permission - pays the consequences. i think porno is great. i think his school seems like a bunch of dicks. but he violated a protocol and they enforced rules that were already in place. i would imagine if he did some amateur ballet'ing he might get similar consequences. this is the same as an anti-sodomy law? lolwut? creating a law that makes it impossible for two consensual adults to physically express their relationship is far different than a private organization enforcing their own moral code that effectively says you can do whatever you want bro - but not here. it's stupid and i hope this kid's life turns out great but comparing it to judicial punishment is pretty fuckin straw.

Doing porn can often have adverse effect on your career weather your straight or gay or man or woman. I think it's unfortunate.

I remember reading that pornstar Kurt Wild was fired from his job at Subways for doing porn. He is not the first and will not be the last guy who will lose an opportunity due to his/her work in porn.

For those people interested below is the link to his introduction from Cockyboys

    hmmmm...

I read many (not all) of the posts...and I am taking a slightly different view...

This guy has all the ability in the world to do what he wishes...and as I read it didn't appear that anyone was telling him he couldn't go out and performing in gay porn...

...however, every BRAND has the right to defend itself from those people, events, and items which may tarnish the brand...going to school is not employment...it is not a protected category...it appears to me the school was protecting its brand...and with schools needing to fundraise (especially schools for the arts), his behavior introduced an unwanted or unknown element...

frankly, I don't disagree with the school's response. Is it an awful lesson to learn at his age, sure. But it is a good lessen in reading through contract language (and I am certain the school had an honor code or behavioral code) which was the basis for his dismissal.

This is the civil rights story of the century.

Anyway, #1 rule for ballet performers: NO MOONLIGHTING.
