I think one of the most common threads I've seen since becoming a regular forum participant is the "How do you approach or talk to the hot gym guy thread (or similar) We all encourage them to talk about something gym related.
Ask his advice on workouts.. something believable, then take it from there.

What if you happen to be the guy approached? I've seen very few threads about that. What you are working out and a guy you've hardly noticed comes up and makes small talk, have absolute eye contact, shakes your hand and talks about the equipment that you are using?

I have had that happen a couple of times of late. Over the weekend, a twenty something, red haired guy, cute, came up to me out of the blue when I was doing triceps. Never seen him before, very nice, complimentary and left me wondering.
You be polite, friendly, complimentary and keep curiosity under control...lol.

How experiences have you had and how did you deal with it?

LMAO! Thanks, my silly laugh for the day. icon_lol.gif

To Kansan: surprisingly I don't get many approaches at the gym anymore. icon_rolleyes.gif

But I do get obvious hits at places like gay bars (conditions are often more desperate in there). And my first thought is:

"How do I lose this guy, because I'm partnered and I don't wanna lead him on. I don't wanna be rude or insulting, either, but I'm not able to provide what he's after."

My best solution is to casually mention my husband in the context of our conversation. Of course that tactic may not be useable in a public gym, but it's very effective in a gay bar.

And if you don't have a husband or BF, pretend. Or if you really like the guy, see pic above.

What gyms are you all going to? That never happens to me unless someone wants to use the equipment.

If I get asked to spot someone I'm like "oh shit, why me?"

I never feel like I do it right.

I feel like I forget conversational skills if someone asks me something. Then again it's sorta awkward for both parties involved :/

Pleased and flattered the all too times that happens.

I am told I look "intimidating"' to some peeps.

    Looks can be deceiving!

No matter how attractive they are, I give off vibes of annoyance. When I am working out I don't like to be bothered.

They just want to take whatever damn piece of equipment I'm using, so I pretend not to see them when they start to hover or motion at it.

Because I am amazing if I see someone hovering I immediately ask if they are waiting for what I am using. After that they usually say hi to me when they see me around the gym.

The way you guys talk, going to the gym is like using the urinal. Eyes straight ahead, quick job, leave.

    I hate gyms.

Maybe it's a San Francisco thing but being friendly is the norm 24/7 here. Why would you not share your love and life with all that cross your path in a day?

Hey my experience with the red haired guy was to be very friendly. I am am friendly with those who are that way at all. Sure we have many that stare straight ahead and don't say much, but we have a number to the contrary!

I don't understand why everyone's response wouldn't be to just be polite.

If they have a simple question, answer it.

If they're trying to get you to give them hours of free personal training then they're not being polite so politely move along.

If they're hitting on you, then stutter and stare at your shoes.

If someone is hitting you, and you want to douse the flame, ask them if they've accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Personal savior.......

(if that doesn't work, try Satan!)
