It's 2013... only gay guys (or Canadian tourists seeking camp value) are still looking for something "all American"

What a boring, predictable piece of crap; illustrating every stereotype possible. It's like a 90's after school special. He's portrayed as a lost, insecure, drunk who lusts after the straight guy he can't have. Really? Go to a fucking leather bar and get a real man who'll fuck you! LOL The swimming hole scene: everything about this has been played out since "Ode To Billy Joe" from the 70's. I'm not interested in catering to a homophobic mainstream country constituent. Assimilation is not freedom.

"All American" is an archaic stereotypical A&F term. The way it's been used to describe the select blonde blue-eyed surfer type throughout it's heyday has given it eugenic connotations. The melting pot that USofA is, it's ironic that u can't connote an all encompassing, all inclusive meaning with the term "All American", the way it's been used all these years....

Because of his Eurocrentric mien, a Bel Ami boy, fresh off the boat, will fit the A&F All American look way before a third or fourth generation American of say Asian or Mexican or Middle Eastern descent, even over the original indigenous Native American Indian.

This has been discussed and I think guys on here generally reject this Abercrombie and Fitch looking commercial of a video and a generic voice which is not country at all

I believe that the license on the car in the video may even be California LOL

I think a real good song would be similar to "someone like you" but with "he" instead of "she" so the guy is referring to another man. It can be that subtle to have some powerful meaning. It doesn't have to be so extreme. Things like this video just make me feel like it was done for pure shock value

You obviously missed the whole point of the song. And it in no way implies anyone is an insecure drunk. Lost and lust after a straight, sure. All part of the younger years.

Just watched the video, the singer produced the video himself and he didn't give himself the boy in the end! That was sad, he was left by the object of his affection icon_cry.gif

Its not a country song by any stretch. Its a pop song. And honestly, not all that great. However, a good first effort. If he had the right team behind him ala producer, engineer, etc. he might be able to get a bit better.

but the general idea of the song gets lost in all the bullshit surrounded by it. icon_lol.gif it's hard to take the song or him seriously.

it also doesn't help that dude was a model basically doing soft porn and seems to be holding onto that image in his video, hint the bare ass shot. i thought the same exact thing that moobey and spgem though. it unintentionally shows the negatives of the gay community. he could have done better instead of this utterly shallow minded piece of sheit.

I disagree. It doesnt show any negative stereotypes. That entire song could be constructed out of threads on this site. Thats a bit calling the kettle black. We have threads about unrequoted love. Falling for straight guys. Falling for your friend. And as far as the soft core porn goes....take a look at the photos on this site. And of course the song is trite. Most songs are.

oh, i can point them out one by one. this video is an ignorant homophobes dream or vision of what a gay man is about.

-a gay guy chasing after a straight guy and trying to turn him out. we have gay guys that seem to be all in love with straight guys they KNOW they can't have or will never date them. why chase after a straight guy when there's plenty of gay guys out there?

    -the alcohol and drug references.

-the whole hook up, one night stand, sex stereotype that gay men are all about sex and can't formulate relationships with each other.

-the whole body obsessive, superficial, vanity crap which is the main idea of the video. notice how the video goes from some innocent shit into becoming some porno. at one point, they both got naked. for some reason, people are ignoring that there is nudity in the video. he takes off his pants and we see a clear shot of his ass. why couldn't it just be them kissing and that's that? was all the undressing and nudity even necessary?

-the clear narcissism where he wants to go after so and so, get him drunk and steal the guy from his girlfriend.

my main issue was all of that necessary to get his point across. dunno about you but trying to take advantage of a straight guy because you want him, getting him drunk so you can hook up with him and sex with him not thinking about HIS feelings or his situation where he's a closet case, is fucked up if you ask me. i hate how dude at the end of the video is looking all sad like "woe is me" when he's chasing after a closet case/straight guy. what did he expect?

Like I said. You just described a lot of threads on this site. I would say it reflected a segment of the community.

Fucking dull, cliched, predictable. Making far too big a deal out of his sexuality.

What is more exciting is when artists don't need to make a massive deal out of the sexuality and can garner great appeal, just because they are awesomely talented.

Meet Baths who makes stunning music. He just happens to be gay.

Urg who care with all the politics crap really! He's an artist, he can expresses his opinions/directions of the video anyway he wants. You can do your own video if you came up with $7000 yourself!!

I like the video, him and the straight dude actor too! It's all fun and game when you know 2 guys just drank some whiskey, went skinny dipping and kissed each other! I kept thinking to myself **Is he going to sleep and have a 3some with his buddy and his gf? Lol, Ok I watched too much Bi porn! Damn, he has nice abs and a cute butt too !! I'd hit that. icon_lol.gificon_eek.gif

No, clearly you'd rather play into every gay stereotype as well - "go to a leather bar and get a man who'll fuck you"

    Uhm, okay...if you're a slutty skank

You attack hetero-normative stereotypes of our community...and then immediately play into our own stereotypes. Moron. Moron. Moron.

Dear artists who are also gay,

You can make art, and it neither, a) has to appeal to the gay market, nor b) base its focus on your sexuality.

    Sincerely,
    T-toe
(An artist who happens to be gay)

I enjoy how many forum posts are coming from this.

Just wanna say, the poppy ness is what draws non-country listeners to it, something prior gay country stars couldn't do. Hence why he's seen as the "first"

I have to say I think you are one of the smartest and most open minded guys on RJ. You provide a great deal of great information and are never dull.

You are extremely talented and have a great insight into music. I have loved all of the music you have posted on RJ.

I just find it interesting that you expect people to be open minded about things such as other people's choice to be in an open relationships, but you seem to be very closed minded about other people's choice of music.

Isn't it sufficient to say that this music doesn't appeal to you, and provide examples of what does?

Do you really need to insult people who may find this music entertaining, not to mention another entertainers preference in his artform?

Seriously not trying to be an arse, I do respect your insights and talent. I'm just curious about something that seems to me to be inconsistent in your points of view.
