Depends on where we are, and what TV access we have. Ever hear of mobile devices? And some guys, like me, prefer to get the news online, like an electronic newspaper I can read for myself, get to compare different coverages of the same stories. TV "talking heads" never give enough info in their time-constrained, summarized pieces. Or else why do we post ANY news links on RJ?

Not surprised. If Zimmerman was black the outcome would have been much different.

Zimmerman is black - and certainly at least 8x more black than Elizabeth Warren was Native American as she claimed previously.

    This is dreadful.
    Simply dreadful.
Even though I had predicted this outcome from the beginning, I had hope, when the judge allowed an option of a manslaughter conviction, that Zimmerman would get what he deserved.

Or if his victim HADN'T been Black. I was in a car last night with 2 White people, and they brought up this trial. And both of them started bashing Martin because he wore "earrings and ghetto necklaces" and had "gold teeth" and "wore a hoody", "was a drug user and dealer", and on and on. And that anyone who encounters a Black at night must "expect the worst".

God's honest truth, it's what they were saying! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Apparently the Right Wing propaganda machine, aided & abetted by Fox News, had gotten that racist anti-Black message across loud & clear, successfully turning Martin into a "thug", the favorite Right Wing term for most Blacks these days.

I was driving in the rain after midnight, and I wasn't going to pick a fight at that point. But trust me, I'll revisit this with them again. icon_mad.gif

Zimmerman was a self important vigilante. CCW for the wrong reasons. This makes other gun owners look bad, and they shouldn't be "celebrating" the verdict.

Incidentally, our best friend is in charge of the music program in the HS that Trayvon Martin attended in Miami-Dade County. He observed none of the Fox News slanders about Martin, just an ordinary student as far as he could see. Though Trayvon wasn't one of his own music students in this "Magnet School", he nevertheless heard no negative reports from fellow teachers, and all were shocked when this happened.

From the sites I've read, gun owners aren't celebrating. Zimmerman *isn't* a likeable guy and neither party appears to be likeable. What happened was horrible and the verdict shouldn't be celebrated but this doesn't mean that it should be considered a setback for race relations either as some seem to be pushing.

    Reasonable Doubt = ACQUITTAL

If the judge had allowed expert voice analysis testimony regarding the voices recorded during the attack there might have been much less reasonable doubt.

Instead, a Vietnam-era medic was allowed to testify that the voices of men under stress can rise in pitch, casting doubt on whose voice had been recorded, Martin's or Zimmerman's.

Once that "evidence" was admitted, but the expert voice analysts blocked, I strongly suspected Zimmerman would be acquitted. As I had mentioned in another RJ thread.

Do I still think Zimmerman was guilty of the charges? Absolutely.

Really? I heard the voice analysis was inconclusive. The quality of the recording was so bad, they couldn't tell who was who. Did they re-do the analysis recently?

    Reasonable doubt.

They overshot with the murder charges. I think they're both partially to blame: Zimmerman for getting out of the car and thinking he was some sort of super cop and Martin for engaging him. I think Zimmerman is alittle wrong in the head and maybe watched one too many cop shows and definitely should not have had a gun.

The prosecution had a very weak case. It almost seemed like some of the witnesses were there to help the defense.

Actually, I don't have regular television. I only get my news online. And I know that I'm not the only one on RJ. icon_smile.gif

My tv only gets Netflix (comes through the internet connection). I live in a canyon that cannot get regular tv programs without cable or a satellite dish and I don't have either of those right now.

I know people that don't even own a tv. They spend more time with friends, go out for live entertainment, and work on plays instead. I think that these things are becoming more common as well. I remember reading about more young people are less interested in regular tv and the networks are hurting because of it.

on a side note, what ever happened to neighbors helping when someone is screaming outside?

If one or two of the neighbors had simply interceded it may have been escalated.

i think the take home message to "stay in your car" is the wrong message.

It is help someone who is screaming. If 4 or 5 people were standing in that courtyard it would have been unlikely that trayvon would have overtaken zimmerman and in turn zimmerman feel that his life was in danger.

What trial were YOU listening to? Zimmerman stalked Martin, that much is certain. Zimmerman even phoned that to the dispatcher. The only doubt was what happened when Zimmerman confronted Martin.

"Martin overtook Zimmerman"? No evidence for that whatsoever, except in the Fox News version of events.

Martin's criminal activities had been covered up by the school, who were aware that he had been stealing periodically, so they could improve their graduation rates. He was no angel. Didn't deserve to be shot, but he wasn't some saintly martyred victim.

I'll ask our friend about that when we see him again. He's summering out of state until the new school term begins. What is your source that the school was covering up Martin's criminal activities? I'd like to share that with our friend for his comments.

Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.

it maybe fact that Trayvon may have stolen once in his life. But it is utterly irrelevant to the case. Trayvon could have been a 10x convicted robber. If trayvon had been shot in the back for running away Zimmerman would have convicted. Even thugs have the same constitutional rights.

Trayvon was shot leaning over Zimmerman.

That's another Fox News claim you make, that the forensic evidence does not establish. Apparently Florida's "stand your ground" law doesn't work for Black teens who are stalked by a self-appointed, armed vigilante.

SYG was never invoked in this trial. It could have been but it wasn't.
