Not a good week for the Democrats in Red States but on the long term not good for Republicans at all.

You support it because you think it's about abortion. It's about closing women's clinics. Check your facts.

No fact checking needed most abortion clinics totally ignore the laws of their state because the workers and doctors support abortion on demand. They dont report statutory rape when a pregnant 15 yr old girl shows up.The people of Texas have the right to regulate abortion as the Supreme Court permits. If they strike it down so be it.Ryan.

First degree murder for killing a fetus?

Regardless of how you feel about abortion, I don't think there's a legal precedent.

Murder? Murder!? Professor Plum, in the dining room, with the wrench?!

Or undergo the process of Abortion, 88% of which are performed within the first 12 to 13 weeks of pregnancy, and fewer than 2% of which are provided at 21 weeks or after--with access to those late abortions only available extreme situations?

In cases of surgical abortion: as performed by a highly trained, highly skilled and experienced medical operator with knowledge of medicine and science, in the sanitized operating room, utilizing sterile and precise medical instruments under the consent and free will of the woman carrying the child, who has been counseled by knowledgeable and informed professionals about the potential consequences of the decision she has made?

Alternatively: ensure proper sex education (more than just shouting 'abstain' at them) to teenagers (of which approximately one million per year become pregnant, 78% of which are unintended)? Less unintentional pregnancies, less need for abortion.

    --------

Conservative: "Holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation [...]."

Liberal: "Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values."

I'll admit it. I've got Liberal sympathies. But that's why I'm driving a car instead of a horse.

    --------

Anyway, hooray for sharing opinions! Ooo, maybe we can get some people with vaginas to express their own opinion instead of us penis owners deciding it for them!

*PS, was very disappointed reading that article, in that the doctor never took his scalpel and started screaming "I'm gonna abort this baby!!" Was actually kind of surprised the article didn't mention anything at all about abortions. Except for referencing the bill at the beginning, but irrelevant to the story.

    OPINION ALERT OPINION ALERT

I'm confused as to why someone would think that 20 weeks isn't " enough time" to consider ones options and make a decision to have an abortion or not? This new Texas law basically says the limit is 20 weeks unless some unforeseeable circumstance necessitates a later abortion. Twenty weeks is roughly half way through pregnancy and most " normal" females are showing by then so its not a surprise; also( if your missing 4 months of mensuration( 20 weeks) and still haven't figured out somethings up then I cant help that.

For those that think the USA is some sort of puritan culture with respect to abortion, look at European laws regarding abortion and they seem to be more restrictive then our own( USA).

I don't see regulation of abortion leading to back alley abortions that some on the fringe left always say in the same way that I don't think gay marriage will destroy society as screamed by the far right. Cigarettes and Alcohol are regulated and yet we still have them, and I suspect; abortions are safe as well.

The root of this issue is unwanted pregnancies.

There are two ways to deal with this:
    1) Teach proper sex education and easy access to contraception;
    2) Only teach abstinence.

Now we all know which one of these two approaches is more effective and which one the Texas government prefers. Here's a video of the Texas governor trying to defend the least effective approach. (Actually, he's just being himself.)

The point is: don't bitch about abortion when this is the kind of leadership you elect.

I was careless when I resurrected this heated topic.
I was looking to talk about present legal rulings - oh well.
