I consider it ruder that spitting in someone's face, I would never hang up on anyone, it's just nasty and unkind.

any of you ever been an asshole and done it to someone?

Or had it done on you, and by whom?

I did when I had a land line. I think its more about the act of slamming the actual phone. Its no where near as dramatic pushing a cel button icon_twisted.gif

Even with the rudest of telemarketers I don't have it in me to hang up on someone. I have had someone hang up on me, and it was in a phone call where the only word I got to say was "Hello?" before a 5 minute tirade and the hanging up.

We have telemarketing in our company (it should be unlawful) and please feel free to nicely say "thanks for calling but no thank you" and hang up. The telemarketers dislike it more if you let them talk for no reason.
On the other hang, I have frequently hung up on people by starting to speak and then hanging up on myself. It will always sound like we were disconnected.

I have, at work even. People call me when they need something fixed, and they are often upset and under pressure. But that does not mean I will tolerate someone yelling and swearing at me. I'll ask them to calm down, and if they don't I'll tell them to call me when they have calmed down and I'll hang up.

Once on a passive aggressive, control freak, old friend. Only I didn't hang up. I threw the phone into a wall across the room. I have no idea, but I'm guessing the connection was lost.

Then last election season I told another old friend that I had to get off the phone because they were defending someone's right to try and stop me from gaining my rights. I could not stay on the phone with them. I tried being polite but got off the phone pretty damned quickly.

Oh, and online, when someone attempts treating me like shit I click ignore. Same thing only virtual.

...really? I don't hang up on people and I definitely don't spit in people's faces, but I'd much rather get hung up on than be spat in the face.

Yeah, if you slam your cell phone you just fuck yourself. There was nothing like the satisfaction of slamming the receiver down. Those old phones of my youth could really take a beating!

My dad taught me early on someone spitting in your face is the ultimate sign of disrespect...I'd have to beat their ass for that...Hanging up on someone pales in comparison...

    Me:
Hey what's cute and hangs up ?
    other person:
    I dunno ?
    beeeeeeeeep.....icon_smile.gif

I agree with the other person you cant slam a phone down anymore..........I would never do that to a stranger ...only time I ever slammed phones down was when having an argument with someone ...they would invariably phone back 30 seconds later with "dont you slam the phone down on me !!"

Yes. I aggressively screen my calls. If I pick up from an unknown number and I don't get a "hello" from a live person within a split second, I hang up. If I get a sales pitch, or a bored person reading from a script, I hang up. I have an especial hatred for recruiters: instead of hanging up, I'll put the receiver down and let them babble on until they hang up. I once had a recruiter attempt to justify his rudeness in calling me at the office (which number isn't published anywhere, so he must have researched the number somehow) after I had hung up on him. I told him that if I had been interested in what he had to sell (and make no mistake, he was a salesman) I would have made an appointment to listen to his pitch. I then told him to find another way to find goods to sell to his clients.

^^ I agree with this approach.

Telemarketer computers call multiple numbers simultaneously. When you pick up, you have to wait for a human to take the call. If a human isn't available in 10 seconds, the system hangs up on you and tries again later.

Nobody got time for that Meme.

Fortunately, my life allows me to let the call go to voicemail if I don't recognize the ID.

My friends know that "Blocked" == voicemail.

For my home land line I have a voice over ip service called Voipo. They have a nice web page with a gazillion options and settings for your phone number. One page shows all of your phone traffic, both incoming and outgoing. Another page allows you to configure how it routes each phone number for incoming phone calls. Every time a telemarketer calls me I add them to the routing page and route their call to 909-390-0003, which just echoes back everything you say. Before switching to Voipo I used to get many telemarketer calls; now I hardly get any (that get through; I still get several every day that are being rerouted).

as I recall, I've only hung up on my bf on very rare occasions...lol!
    and twice on my mom.
and few times on a call service center who is almost yelling at me instead of listening to my complaint icon_eek.gif have any of you experienced this before? it's quite common in India...I dislike most of the call service centers in India.
before purchasing anything, they'll treat you like god & after that...you're nothing to them icon_evil.gif

Other than this, I dislike it.

With cell phones, it's no longer satisfying. On a back in the day phone, you could really make a hang up dramatic and exciting.

Are there any "Angry Hangup" apps for cell phones? Someone needs to invent one.

Seriously? Wow, I hang up on people all the time. Hell Ive broken two handsets at work, in fact. I dont get the same satisfaction of hanging up on my man when using my cell, but if he gets on my nerves or seems distracted while playing some stupid video game, I'll drop his call and wont answer for hours when he tries to call back.
