I don't get why people blow dry their genitals. Are they too sensitive? Don't want to get the towel "dirty?" Why, god, why...

The other young guy in the white briefs is wrong...... That age group wears boxers and most likely you wont see them because of the towel wrapped around him.. LOL.

    i do notice there's a generational difference

as well, i reckon its a socialization thing as well; i started going to the Y at an early age. in toronto, one Y was men only, which meant lots a nakedness - including in the pool (men did not wear suits, just swam in the buff)

i kinda like the "out & proud" approach to the locker room

It's bizarre how backwards it is. Seems like the older men would be the prudish ones and the young guys would be more open and accepting of nude bodies. Go figure.

I *think* they do that to be sure they are thoroughly dry and prevent jock itch.

We've covered this in other threads. It seems that young men today are downright prudish when it comes to nudity among other men, in this case the locker room context. Even the commercial response is stark: most new gyms have separate, individual shower stalls and the older ones are converting to it, whereas in the "old days" group showers were the norm. It's just weird!

To carry on that theme, THIS IS SO TRUE (and ridiculous):

This, on the other hand, is a newer "invention". In over a quarter century in the service, this was never something witnessed first-hand. It's not a bad idea, but at home we don't do it (a towel suffices) so why the need at the gym?

Young guys are very prudish about being seen naked. I use to think it was an only child thing but now I think its more.

Old dudes dont give a fuck because they probably fought in a war, have a lot of dead friends and lived through enough shit not worry about what a 22 year old thinks in a locker room.

I am sure the blow dryer is to make sure that one is really dry. I have done it at home, especially when fighting a case of jock itch, or when in a hurry to get dressed and not wanting to be damp. It's just a difficult area to get dry. Otherwise I save electricity and just wander round naked until I am dry.

As for locker rooms, who gives a damn? It is a tired topic.

I have no problem walking around naked in the locker room. I don't have anything to ashamed of.

It's sad also because the guys young or old changing in the locker room with a towel over themselves are not "lookers" anyway. It must be an esteem thing too.

It is strange when some guys like the the ones in the cartoon don't really work out or sweat at the gym, but feel the need to shower there?? Hahahahah

I think people are kinda uptight about nudity, being naked in the locker room/public! I mean, you're changing, taking a shower, just get naked already, it's not like anyone's going to eye-rape you! icon_lol.gificon_redface.gif I don't have a problem with this but maybe a creepo keeps staring me down and won't leave me alone then Yes.

Well as a man who served in the Navy and had to.live in close quarters with many men i can say a little modesty goes a long way. No one needs to see your junk to know ur comfortable with yourself.
    Its not prudish, its polite.

I don't parade around naked, but I no longer am uptight about being naked. I strip off gym clothes, and put on towel to and from showers.

Back when I was in school, you were considered "suspect" and feminine if you weren't comfortable being naked around other men. Even overt. You think there's any shyness about being naked in an NFL locker room? It's just social conditioning. The spit younger/older isn't anything to do with exhibitionism or voyeurism. It is just a shift of opinion. And not for the better, imho. But then that is because I was trained to see this shyness as "sissy." Tough to escape your childhood training. Either way.
