I have roughly 6 months left til I join the marines. I am absolutely excited, anxious, and nervous to leave either for Officer Candidate School or bootcamp, however I'm a little bitter....I want to find that guy to write to, that someone I think about when I need a morale booster! T-6months ahhahahah. Wish me luck finding him!

Aweee well it shouldn't be too hard for you icon_wink.gif

But why? Why do you want to become a marine?

Not to discourage, Im sure you have made up your mnd and it is not a bad thing... but why get so .......risky?

I don't know, Im just curious as to why join something potentially dangerous?

Hmmmmmmm well we are Very different people but you've got balls haha

I care about the worlds people and a leadership role would sound Amazing to me but I think I'm more of a words kind of guy... probably cause I know I couldn't last out there long haha

Also the fact that you truly care is great, I have heard of people joining when they felt they had nowhere else to go buuut I feel the people who are most responsible with their new status are the ones who know if they had a passion for Anything else they could and would make it work, but the best path for them is going into the forces because it truly is their passion

Sorry if I am rambling on... but things that I don't fully understand but I want to, especially on such a level, Really fascinate me.. I doubt I will ever truly get it but I'm Glad You Do! icon_biggrin.gif

from what exactly? from imaginary cavemen? so you can defend the interests of billionaires here, from billionaires there? Poor farm boys kill poor farm boys there, so the two rich people can have their purely financial pissing contest, from some cozy mansion. You have been duped.

I think you'll have a great time. You'll learn a lot, about people, and especially about yourself.

Everyone I've ever known or heard of who's been in the Marines has always valued their experience and always forever after considers themselves a Marine.

I don't know why it's bittersweet. You're about to start an incredible chapter of your life. OCS and TBS are going to kick your ass and teach you more about yourself than you thought possible. Put your focus on becoming the best Marine you can. Who knows, maybe you'll even fall in love there. Don't sweat it. It'll happen or it won't. I bet one of the first lessons you'll learn is to worry about the things you can control and just be aware of the things that you can't.

    GO Navy!

You will not feel that way for long, just saying.. once you're no longer a boot or a butter bar in the Corps..you will see you're fighting for the Marine/soldier/sailor/airman to your left and right.

But congrats anyhow how man, you'll love it!! and if you don't you'll gtfo after four!

..and also fix title to capitol "M" unless you plan on joining seaworld in SD.

It's probably too late at this point, but you said you're doing prelaw—have you considered joining JAG? You'd be able to pursue a legal career while serving. Just something to think about. icon_smile.gif

My sister is an officer in the US Marines and has never once fired a gun. She did, however, dive into the danger zone after the Japanese tsunami to help with the relief effort there.

    Arsehole.

Good luck, OP. The gods all bless.

In hindsight I wish I'd had an experience like the one you will be going through. And I commend you for your passion, service and selflessness. The true love will come eventually. But in the mean time you'll have your brothers and sisters who are serving with you. You'll have true camaraderie of the sort most of us will never experience. At least, that is my wish for you.

Best of luck, man. I admire your courage and decisiveness. I'm sure you will meet a guy in the Marines. You will find more like minded men there. I appreciate your service and patriotism.

January class is the best. Not sure if it's still true now, but January OCS is smaller and male OCC only. No female or PLC candidates. Less chaos, believe it or not. Also, you'll be in TBS in the summer. So the weather is a little more cooperative.
