This is very disturbing. Can't say I'm shocked but this is not the kind of world I want to live in.

All the more reason to walk, ride a bike, or take public transportation whenever feasible.

    I don't have a car so I concur.

But here in the San Francisco bay area we have a train system called BART. You can have a running balance on your ticket and reuse it. If you put money on it with your credit card they could then track your movements since the tickets have a magnetic strip on them and possibly a ticket id that they could connect to your credit card.

I agree but short of an insurrection this isn't going to stop. In fact, it is only going to get worse. All our electronic communications and transactions are being compiled. Individually it may mean nothing but the databases create 'profiles' and god for bid any of us should ever become 'a person of interest' for any reason. Even worse, in my mind, is the targeted marketing that is now ubiquitous and, again, getting worse. Soon it will be cradle to grave surveillance with profiles defining us even as children. Welcome to the Borg Hive.

This doesn't surprise me, how do you guys think they found the Boston bomber. It's because there are cameras everywhere, we are being constantly watched not only by governments and the police departments but also by the banks, supermarkets, cell phone companies and even small stores

Seriosly though, I can't see the damage with them doing this. Obviously its wrong but I can't see how they can apply this information to anything.
If anything, it makes them look like weirdos.

Totes. Like, what kind of weirdo government complies data on its civilians when they've done nothing wrong...yet?

Maybe you shouldn't be committing crimes using your own vehicle?
