(Looking forward to a compilation of the best...)

Last Sunday, I went to a meeting of people interested in Astrology. It was BLESSED. Rhavda Cooper Emison shared a component of prayer with me. She said, Seek the Most Benevolent Outcome. I thought that was holy.

Your comments made me think of John Tavener's Song for Athene performed at Princess Diana's funeral. Didn't want to post the YouTube video. I remember so well. I bought the CD of the funeral. The music was sublime? I was in good tenor voice then, so I had to hear what was composed, fit for my voice and my emotions and sensibilities.

An Episcopalian prayer that I love:

    Most merciful God,
We confess that we have sinned against you
    in thought, word, and deed,
    by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
    We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
    have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
    and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

    There's been some confusion,
    Over rooming here at Shiz.
But of course I'll care for Nessa,
But of course, I'll rise above it,
    For I know,
    That's how you'd want me,
    to Respond.

    Yes.

    There's been some confusion,
For you see, my roommate is,
    Unusually and exceedingly peculiar,
    And altogether quite impossible,
    To describe.

    Blonde.

    The Summer Day

    Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
    Who made the grasshopper?
    This grasshopper, I mean--
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down--
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

    Ample make this bed.
    Make this bed with awe;
In it wait till judgment break
    Excellent and fair.

    Be its mattress straight,
    Be its pillow round;
    Let no sunrise' yellow noise
    Interrupt this ground.

    Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

    Hebrews 13:5-6

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

    Deuteronomy 31:8

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

I try to say this everyday.

"May I be open and present to all guidance that directs me to be of spiritual support to others. And when I am in need of support please direct me to those who you would select on my behalf. I remain forever grateful that you so closely and lovingly keep a mindful eye on all of us who share life on this earth. So often we do not understand why we must endure what is asked of us and in those times grant me the grace of faith. May I always be guided to live a life of service that benefits humanity and the quality of my own spiritual journey."

"MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." - Thomas Merton

The lyrics of this song is not what I'd like to share in this thread. The reason for sharing this is that the simple melody is a beautiful prayer. The lyrics are indeed secondary at this time. Yes, the lyrics could be a wonderful prayer.

This post is a prayer of thanks that I spent more than 20 years at Marble Collegiate Church in NYC. Camellia Johnson was one of the soprano soloists.

(When I posted above about O Divine Redeemer, I remember her singing it.)

Here, she's singing at St. Patrick's Cathedral, north on 5th Ave. above Marble Collegiate Church at 29th Street.

And, yes. I'm homesick for New York.

Most beautiful, eh? lol, I wouldn't consider my prayers that at all. icon_redface.gif

Sometimes prayer isn't words, and can't be put into words easily.

    I'll try though.

Ever have one of those moments when sitting outside on a beautiful day when abruptly everything, everything, from the colour of the sky to the blades of grass tickling your feet suddenly seem to have a presence of personality and purpose?

..and I feel like I am part of that, and that god is watching over me and all of everything and everyone; I close my eyes feeling a great warmth and love and say, like in a classroom,
    "Present."

When it does come to words...
    Faith:
"Thank you for Your Presence throughout my life, I feel Your love, and ask for nothing knowing You already know."

Sometimes my prayers express themselves in odd ways, when writing fiction for example:

"Janice felt her whole self give a great throb of terror and then, amazingly, a nostalgic sense of recognition, then a strange happiness that seemed plainly senseless. That sensation of recognition bloomed into realization as she knew, without doubt, that God existed, and more, was in her and around her, like the atoms she was made of but even finer than that. Invisible, gossamer, yet as easy to see as her own hand, the Maker was present."

My morning prayer comes from the Jesuit priest and mystical theologian, Teilhard de Chardin:

"Tu autem, Domine mi, include me in imis visceribus Cordis tui. Atque ibi me detine, excoque, expurga, accende, ignifac, sublima, ad purissimum Cordis tui gustum atque placitum, ad puram annihilationem meam."

‘Lord, lock me up in the deepest depths of your heart; and then, holding me there, burn me, purify me, set me on fire, sublimate me, till I become utterly what you would have me be, though the utter annihilation of my ego.’

A different kind of prayer; a beautiful paraphrasing of Christ speaking to me.

    AS

    ""As"

As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I'll be loving you always
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all is born is new
Do know what I say is true
That I'll be loving you always

Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky---ALWAYS
Until the ocean covers every mountain high---ALWAYS
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea---ALWAYS
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream

Did you know that true love asks for nothing
Her acceptance is the way we pay
Did you know that life has given love a guarantee
To last through forever and another day
Just as time knew to move on since the beginning
And the seasons know exactly when to change
Just as kindness knows no shame
Know through all your joy and pain
That I'll be loving you always
As today I know I'm living but tomorrow
Could make me the past but that I mustn't fear
For I'll know deep in my mind
The love of me I've left behind Cause I'll be loving you always

Until the day is night and night becomes the day---ALWAYS
Until the trees and seas just up and fly away---ALWAYS
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4---ALWAYS
Until the day that is the day that are no more
Did you know that you're loved by somebody?
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left---ALWAYS
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself
    I'll be loving you forever
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through---ALWAYS
Until the day that you are me and I am you---AL~~~~~~WA~~
    ~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~
    Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky~~~~~AA~~~~
    ~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~YS~~ALWAYS

We all know sometimes lifes hates and troubles
Can make you wish you were born in another time and space
But you can bet you life times that and twice its double
That God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed
so make sure when you say you're in it but not of it
You're not helping to make this earth a place sometimes called Hell
Change your words into truths and then change that truth into love
    And maybe our children's grandchildren
And their great-great grandchildren will tell
    I'll be loving you

Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky--Loving you
Until the ocean covers every mountain high--Loving you
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea--Loving you
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream--Be loving you
Until the day is night and night becomes the day--Loving you
Until the trees and seas up, up and fly away--Loving you
Until the day that 8x8x8x8 is 4--Loving you
Until the day that is the day that are no more--Loving you
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left--Be loving you
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself--Loving you
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through--Loving you
Until the day that you are me and I am you--
    Now ain't that loving you
Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky
    Ain't that loving you
Until the ocean covers every mountain high
And I've got to say always
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea~~AL~~~WA~~~AYS
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream-Um AL~~WA~~AYS
Until the day is night and night becomes the day-AL~~~~WA~~AYS
Until the trees and seas just up and fly away-AL~~WA~~~AA~~~~~
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA
Until the day that is the day that are no more-AA~~~~AA~~AA~~~AYS
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left-AL~~~WA~~~A~~~AA
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself-~~AA~~~AA~~~AA~~~AYS

Until the day that you are me and I am you

    English translation:

Where charity and love are, God is there.
Christ's love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear, and let us love the living God.
And may we love each other with a sincere heart
