So I don't know if my definition is correct here, But for me racism is any kinda judgmental or different act or behavior to another human being because they are different from us in some way. may be the difference is color, origin, orientation and if we talk even within gay community muscled, Twinkie, flamboyant etc.
So pint is even many of us say we are not racist we knowingly or unknowingly treat people brutally sometimes because they are not something we appreciate.
I believe having preferences is good but insults or brutal behavior to other human beings because they are not what we expect is totally inhuman. So any thoughts on it?

no - racism relates only to race, not sexual orientation, sex, culture, etc. Racism is just one type of prejudice.

Recognising trends of physical traits or cultural behaviours is not prejudiced. You can verbally point out these trends without being labelled racist.

Generalising and stereotyping based upon skin colour is racist.

Couldn't agree more. I think this has been discussed enough over the last few weeks. Can we please just talk about something else.icon_question.gif

Yes, let me high jack this thread and discuss the fact that I invited a guy over that i've been talking to on Grindr for a few months but never had the opprotunity to meet. We were both out east so it was another chance to chill. I jumped on it, invited him over and wasnt into him once I saw him in person.
I feel and felt awful. The tension was unbareable as I tried to make small talk into extended conversations but I could tell his soul purpose was a hook up and then I just blurted out "I'm sorry, I can't" Out of nowhere, I wasnt even expecting that delivery but the need to get out of the situation had me breaking out in sweats.
He started to ask a series of questions as to why... I still cringe at the exchange of wrds, nothing harsh just i've never been at that level of discomfort before... Ok I'm done.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prejudice
"The word prejudice refers to prejudgment: i.e. making a decision before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism
"Racism is usually defined as views, practices and actions reflecting the belief that humanity is divided into distinct biological groups called races and that members of a certain race share certain attributes which make that group as a whole less desirable, more desirable, inferior, or superior."

So simply put: prejudice is inside, how we think. Racism is outside, the institutionalization of race-based prejudice, how we act.

My feeling is that everyone is internally somewhat subject to prejudice--based upon conditioning, sense of aesthetics, levels of empathy/selfishness, etc.--that I'm prejudiced against anyone who isn't me; but I deal with it by always questioning myself and being patient with my thoughts.

I don't believe we have a choice as to whether or not we internally process some prejudices but we always have a choice on whether or not we are racist because we have the opportunity to think before we act.

    Racism is reacting without thinking.

OP! clearly you are not over it. Race is one of the most commonly discussed issues here and I am frankly getting a little bored with it.

Nah, racism is over in America. Heck, just the other day, my long term submissive Asian toy LingLang said he felt the stares of the oppressor when he was at the local Whole Foods. I just looked at him and wished he could learn just a little more English.

What do you mean "....for me?" Words have definitions. You are not at liberty to alter their definitions to suit your lack of understanding. If you don't know the meaning of a word, look it up. Racism has "race" in the word for a reason. It has nothing to do with any of the characteristics you mentioned. Please read....

    rac·ism
    /ˈrāˌsizəm/
    Noun
The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as...
Prejudice or discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief.

As you can probably guess from the definition, 99% of the race cards thrown on this site are empty accusations made by the uneducated. Very few people are ignorant enough to think ALL members of a particular race are the same.
Generalizations do not make you racist and neither does criticizing a particular race.
