I have to say I love milk...Good old Vitamin D when I was a kid, then my Dad had some heart issues and I remember the "requirement" to switch to "2%" in like 1986. We screamed bloody murder! Geez, the 2% and Captain Crunch was, like crap!

But after I really grew up and got the message, I've converted to Skim milk totally. I get tired of it being described as... "colored water". What do you guys drink. Who here drinks "Almond milk"?

I absolutely love Almond Milk. My favorite is the "Almond Breeze" brand.

Lactose makes me sick so I try to avoid real milk for the most part.

Trader Joes cream top unhomogenized milk in moderation. I don't drink it though. Coffee topping, oatmeal, homemade yogurt.

Skimmed milk. And I keep a case of almond milk in the pantry, for out-of-milk emergencies, since it keeps for a couple of years. Also keep almond milk on the boat for the same reason.

It was a big shift when I left for college - I was used to the thick funky stuff straight from the cow. (Well, filtered and chilled first.) All of the store-bought stuff seemed bland, and there wasn't that much difference between regular and skim.

And of course, this brings up one of the weird things that I hate about shopping. Why is the dairy case always blocked by a row of fat women who just stand there and stare at the milk? It's like they're watching a TV show or something. Weird. And annoying.

For a long time I drank nonfat milk. After switching to nonfat milk whole milk tasted like half and half. Milk always made me fart a lot but I kept drinking it believing that it was healthy for you. I became vegetarian for a few years and at first kept drinking milk; interestingly the gas went away, there was some interaction between the milk and meat apparently. Finally I went vegan. Now I'm back to eating meat, but not very much. I no longer drink milk as a beverage with my meals. Now I drink water with my meals. Sometimes perhaps a beer when I'm eating out. I have a morning porridge that has a lot of wheat bran in it; I make it with soy milk and then after it's cooked I pour almond milk over it. Soy milk tastes nasty in a glass or on things; mixed in it's ok. I like to use it because it's a complete protein. I agree with slim2010, Almond Breeze is very good; it's practically like drinking a milkshake. But that's the sweetened version which has sugar. I avoid things that have added sugar so I buy the unsweetened Almond Breeze; in a glass it's boring, but tastes great if you add Splenda. I pour it over my bran mush straight, unsweetened.

If you're trying to cut back, try drinking water with your meals. It's weird at first but you'll get used to it. Fewer calories than milk. If you're worried about the vitamin d and calcium, take a daily multivitamin.

God half of you sound like dieting high society housewives.

I like my milk like I like my men: cheap and white.

I'm lactose intolerant but I don't give a shit. I use the lactose milk when I want sweet milk and almond milk when a recipe calls for it.

Also why do so many black people I know seem to be lactose intolerant? Odd

The rest of my family usually drinks whole milk and it's always tasted like melted butter to me. I've switched over to skim milk and a fistful of lactase pills.

Never thought about it before but that's really true! Maybe next time you see that happening you should stare at the milk too and say "Oh, I love this part!"

Almond milk. Unless I run across some organic local raw milk. Then, I will drink.

Y'all Americans do milk and dairy stuff different, I think.

I drink semi-skimmed. And shitloads of the stuff. I fucking love chocolate milk!

Skim (non fat) milk always. Tastes fine to me, but I use it primarily on cereal. As a skinny kid, I drank extra rich milk (just trying to put some weight on). Then I discovered eclairs, and suddenly had no more trouble putting on weight. Now I can eat only one or two a month (I am addicted).

How can one not love chocolate milk?

But the problem for me is that that stuff has sugar as its first ingredient.

Maybe I should try this: http://goo.gl/WJTsZ

I used to drink skim milk before becoming lactose intolerant. I drink soy or almond milk on occasion, but they aren't really worth the calories. I've tried coconut milk, but the taste is too strong to use it on anything.

I drink 1% milk. It's a nice happy medium - it has more flavor and consistency than skim, but is healthier than 2% or whole.

Almond milk is out because I'm allergic to almonds

I've tried soy milk but the flavor didn't agree with me. Too sweet or something...

Coconut milk - I only use it when making Thai curry icon_biggrin.gif
