Long story short, something on TV last night made me wonder why there are no gay little people. Are there?
    {edit}
    I guess there are.

Wasn't he Will Smith's cousin on The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire? And I'm just a couple inches away from finding this very offensive.

    getthecomputersputin saidhow little we talking?

I'm talking about dwarfs (which is what my two little person friends in the past said they didn't mind being called).
I was flipping channels last night and saw a scene with a gay person and a dwarf for a minute. I thought, "Gee, TV has shown white gays, black gays, Asian gays, disabled gays, but I've never seen a little person who was gay."
No big deal. I just wanted to ask the question.

Wow. I'm feeling ignorant right now. I had never thought gay people could be so little. That's very stupid of me.

It was just an innocent question. No need to get on a soapbox.

I sorta know one. My hubby used to chat with one, and then went out to Spokane while in the States to visit him. I'm facebookk friends with him.

( ps, this is HIS hubby, not mine.)

All the ones I know do NOT like the term "dwarf" and some get pretty upset about it. The PC term to use is "L.P.", "Little Person", "a person with dwarfism" or a person with Achondroplasia." The reason they don't like "dwarf" is because it congers images of circus freaks. And yes, there are most definitely gay L.P.'s. One dude here was very into the whole leather scene and he walked down the street day and night wearing his black leather and chains garb.

@CoachMike - You're a solid 10" too tall to be considered a Little Person, so I think you're safe. icon_wink.gif Besides, height does not make a person hot or not.

It's my understanding that there is more than one genetic feature that can create a little person. Dwarfism is just one type of 'little person' condition.

Yes. There are many different types of L.P. Dwarfism is when the torso is normal size (I believe) but the limbs are shorter. Then you have people who appear to be shrunk down in proportion, which is what people used to called "Midgets." Also not a welcome term to use.

I've always heard they disliked "midget" for that reason.

They are both offensive terms in the L.P. community. I'm sure there are some that don't mind it, just like some gay people don't mind being called "queer", but it's best to leave those two words behind as the L.P. community as a whole has agreed it's offensive to them.

Similar to how the word spastic is now no longer used.

The more we learn about genetic conditions, the less it seems acceptable to use these early terms for such conditions.

If they are able to be sexually attracted to a human of the opposite gender, there are definitely going to be gay ones. Why does it even matter? Maybe people cut them some slack because it'd really suck being treated like crap for being gay and being small - both things that are no fault of their own and not wrong in any way.
