There are a lot of people on here that say they like baseball. How many people here actually played baseball at a high level or really understand baseball?

It's easy, you hit the ball with your racket and hope you get a hole in one through the goal (nothing but net), and then you run around the bases and hope you get a touch down.

See gay people know the sports.

I don't know everything about it, but it was the only sport I really grew up with.

I understand that it is painfully boring to watch, but fun to play.

Recently went to a Brewers/Cubs game in one of the premiere suites, no less, and only made it to the third inning.

I was watching baseball as a kid in the Nederlands before I ever came here and went to Cubs and Sox games when I got to uni every time I could get student price tickets to games. I tried out and played second string in uni for two years - as an outfielder - basically a power-hitter who can reasonably catch a ball and run to it if need be - but I didn't get much play beyond practices. I love the game, I love the strategy, and I love the physique types of baseball players! icon_redface.gif

I understand it very well. I am a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), and I am a part time baseball writer who wrote several articles for ESPN in 2011. I still write for one of their affiliates in their SweetSpot network.

    Do you have questions?

I agree, for instance seeing Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa vs. Clemens in the All Star Game is more exciting than seeing Chris Davis, JJ Hardy, and Adam Jones vs. Matt Harvey

I never played baseball, but I enjoy watching baseball and try to watch as many games as I can, anything from high school, Legion, college, amateur, minor league and Major League.

A couple of years ago during the MN State Amateur tournament I watch 24 games in three weekends.

I have read many histories of the game and I enjoy watching Ken Burns' 10 part documentary.

So, I think I qualify as someone who knows, enjoys and understands baseball.

Who cares? If you like it, you like it, why do you feel the need to back it up with how much experience you have?

Baseball is a dying sport thanks to steroids. But I go see a game if either the Mariners or Astros are playing.

Fun to play, not to watch.

Baseball is the sport I grew up with. I do not claim to understand all of the nuances of the game but I do know it fairly well. It's a relatively simple game, you throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball. I am a big Dodger fan. I try to go to as many games as I can. I live near Los Angeles and this year I flew to NYC just to see my Dodgers play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. I had a blast! We split the doubleheader, that is two games back to back. It means they won the first one and we won the second game.

Baseball I get. But I DON'T get sitting for hours on end in the hot sun. Just waiting. I'm sure that if you took a stopwatch and timed the action from when the ball left the pitcher's hand until the play ended, you'd have about 2 minutes of action. Now don't tell me it's the anticipation.

Basketball? I still don't get it, except that you gotta get the ball in the basket. Don't understand fouls etc. To be honest, don't wanna.

I quit playing baseball in about 5th (thought it was boring and had other sports I liked to play more), but follow it and understand it plenty. I had an aunt that lived in Anaheim when I was really young, so she took me to some Angels games when I'd go to visit (I'm talking California Angels days). Been an Angels fan ever since.

Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe this season for Angels fans.

I love the game, learned the game and know a lot about the game. I love keeping score for the game too. It is a game of strategy that many don't understand. If you do understand what they're doing and why, then you'll find the competitive side so much more interesting.

Oh and did I mention that I'm FIRST PLACE in the Real Jock Baseball League. Of course there are two guys (Boston and NY), right on my ass trying to take away my standing…..
