    Hey Jocks!
A petition for you to sign if you're interested in sport and gay rights!
    Owen!

    https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/international-olympic-committee-postpone-the-2014-sochi-games-until-russian-lgbt-rights-are-restored

    To:
IOC Media Relations, IOC Media Relations
The rights of the LGBT community in Russia are under attack, as well as those of those visiting the country during the Olympics.

The IOC simply cannot let the Olympics take place in a country that does not foster peace and understanding for its citizens and its visitors.

Until Russia scraps the new laws signed into their law books that allow for the persecution, assault, and imprisonment of their LGBT citizens and LGBT visitors, I ask that you postpone the 2014 Sochi games indefinitely.

If there is even one tear, one voice stifled or one drop of blood spilled on an LGBT person or LGBT supporter during the Olympics, it will be on the hands of the IOC, and will forever tarnish the Olympic name.

Please, ask Russia to do the right thing, and take their games away until they do so.
    Sincerely,
    [Your name]

Come on guys! sign this petition!

This petition may or may not work for our LGBT brothers and sisters in Russia, but signing it will cost you nothing but only increases the probability/hope for success.

Shouldn't we have started this boycott like 7 years ago before the Games were selected to be in Sochi? I doubt there will be any changes with the games being 7 months away.

    Signed.

I boycotted the Beijing Olympics on account of human rights abuse and forced displacement. There's just been something about Olympics for the past couple years that makes them extensively boycottable, apparently.

I did sign it ...now I kind of regret doing so....moments after I found this written by Johnny Weir

its an alternate view and I must admit he is quite persuasive

I hate it when I listen to my knee jerk response

Thanks Owen for raising this issue. I've been thinking about it the past couple of days and at this point I'd argue that it would be a better course not to boycott the Olympics but rather to show up in all our queer glory and show the homophobic Putin-supporters that we're better than them (as did Jewish and black Olympians in the face of Hitler at the 1936 Olympics). Still, I won't be drinking any Stolichnaya Vodka anytime soon...

In the meantime, I've signed this petition from allout.org, which doesn't call for a boycott:

    https://www.allout.org/en/actions/russia-attacks

I totally respect you and others that think that a call for a boycott is a more appropriate response even though I disagree with that particular course of action.
