Seduced by the Illusion: The Truth About Transformation Photos

"I decided to take my own transformation photos to see what was possible with just a few easy tweaks. About six months ago I was around 185 pounds and about 16 percent body fat. I was feeling particularly bloated on the day, so I asked my girlfriend to take a before shot. I then shaved my head, face and chest and prepared for the after shot, which was about an hour after I took the before shot. I did a few push ups and chin ups, tweaked my bedroom lighting, sucked in, tightened my abs and BOOM! We got our after shot."

(he has no shadow in the first one. I guess that could be the lighting)

Agreed, be wary of before/after photos.... A comment on the article states the obvious... "Even a lighting change can make all the difference"

Sorry, but lighting doesn't make you go from having a pot belly to a six pack. icon_rolleyes.gif

This article is semi-bullshit. It's easier to look like shit than it is to look fit. I'm pretty sure the after pic is how he looks most of the time. The before pic was probably right after he ate a heavy meal. One hour is a lot of time to digest food, take a dump, sweat out some excess water. You can't get those abs with just lighting and sucking in your gut.

There is a lot of truth in this.

Like I have a pic on my profile that makes me look like I actually have abs but in reality I don't have a low enough bf %. It's all just lighting.

Oh, I totally can go from abs to flabs in the same day. Other guys who have posted similar "fake transformation" photos recommend doing the after photo first, then bloating up. But that would make it sort of hard to incorporate the shaving, which also makes a huge difference in definition.

That guy happens to have a pretty big difference between his relaxed "pooched out" and after work-out "sucked in" looks. His skin is just slack enough to conceal the abs when they're not pumped up.

Always look at the traps. Anyone can get outta shape in 2-3 weeks and get it back. Muscle has memory. 90% of the transformations were people who were athletes and gym people before.

Someone posted this in another thread. The first 20 seconds are relevant to this discussion. Flexing his muscles didn't even take one hour.

This man has demonstrated why the dudes you meet on GrindR usually look better in their profile pic than IRL. icon_lol.gif

But seriously, a combination of good lighting, sucking it in, and getting a good pump can make all the difference in how you look. Getting a pump temporarily increases your size noticeably. Sucking it in definitely reduces the circumference of your waist. And certain angles of light will cast shadows in just the right places to better emphasize muscle definition.

I'm sure lots of guys here who have taken body pics of themselves for their RJ profile have at least some experience with this. icon_cool.gif

Unfortunately even after sucking it in I still dont show absicon_sad.gif . Good for him that at least sucking it in helps. I get somewhat of a flat stomach after sucking it in but no absolutely no abs except for the upper two.

Nipples can change, I have very sensitive nipples and I can make them change their size and color in a matter of seconds.

Oh gesh...I keep watching this. I just can't believe that he can do that. I have a pretty flat stomach but almost no definition. And when I try to stick my stomach out it barely moves. That's just crazy stuff there. Is that all muscle that he is pushing out? I would be curious to see what it looks like when he is in a relaxed position: not pushing out and not flexing.

lol, that's some fucking bullshit. That's dat body-builder gut. Dats so got dang funny lol.

That said, yes the fuck it does matter. Yes the fuck it does. Lighting makes a big difference. I take photo shoots regularly and a direct light shining on my abs show no definition. However, an angled shadow light makes me look cut. Also, my photographers always get on me about sucking in during photo shoots. It makes a huge difference.
