A friend of mine in the radio industry told me that there is a good chance that San Francisco's Energy 92.7 won't be playing dance music much longer.

Obviously, they have their anniversary get together in December but I wonder if the new year brings a format change. This station has done it before.

Would you be bothered by dance music going away?

    I would

Anyone who drives daily and doesn't have a satellite radio/ipod/cd player in there car does, or anyone driving that is sick of listening to their satellite radio/ipod/cd player.

it's probably true. here in phoenix we lost our dance music station recently (Energy 92.7 also). it was a sad day and i wasn't even in town to here them sign off. i remember when they started 5 years ago. i was so happy we'd finally get a dance music station. although they didn't play my kind of dance music (trance) all the time, they had good late night mixes and carried armin's show.

I would disappointed if they stopped playing dance music but I'd be even more disappointed if they took Fernando and Greg off in the morning.

If they want to be more profitable they could start playing commercials over their streaming broadcast. Their stream mostly skips the ads broadcast over the air. I suspect they have quite a few online listeners like me that that they could sell targeted advertising for.

Yes, I'd definitely be bothered by it. Energy 92.7 is practically an SF institution by now. I thought it was wildly popular. It's certainly a visible part of the community. How could it not be profitable? And just what format does anyone think would make more money (and isn't already taken)?

I'd rather they just take off the mashups; I've heard good mashup music and bad, and the stuff I heard on their station was pretty atrocious (you cannot combine two songs just because they might have a couple of words in common). The dance music was pretty good, though, so it'll be a shame if they do a format change.
