I just heard that the same-sex marriage law comes into effect tomorrow.

I'll second that. I recently received a wedding invitation from two dear friends in Minnesota who have been partnered for over 24 years and have two great kids. Finally, just a few months from their 25th anniversary, they are able to marry and will do so in a couple of weeks. So congratulations to all Minnesotans!

Congratulations, Minnesota. When the r.c. church said it was going to mobilize all the forces in the state opposed to gay marriages, I was a bit worried that they might prevail. My fears were groundless. The good people of Minnesota knew right from wrong and they came through. As one state legislator said after the votes came in, "Today love wins." Might I add, "Today hate loses" as represented by the r.c. church and its minions.

For me, more importantly, as of August 1st we have divorce equality here -- so I was able to have my lawyer file the divorce papers to terminate my Vermont civil marriage that had prior to August 1 not been recognized here in Minnesota....
