Catfish Scammers on Sex Sites/Apps

I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge/experience with catfishers on sites like Manhunt or Adam 4 Adam that are obviously not who they say they are. Generally their poor English and grammar are a dead giveaway. Their picture is probably some hot guy, they are far away but they really want to get to know you. OK, you're hot, I'm in!

Then you start talking to them and something doesn't seem quite right. This last guy I was chatting with, when telling me about himself said: "My Chocolate mom was a head teacher and dad was in the medical field." Chocolate mom?

I'm just curious if anyone has any thoughts on what these guys are really after? Things have never progressed to them asking for money loans but I also never let it get that far when things seemed fishy.

Tell them you don't have any adult pics or you don't share pics and see what happens. Usually it's "bye bye."

I never understood the lure of the prospect of adult pics what with an infinite variety already available.

Maybe it's like China where they are and stuff is blocked?

    Probably using Google Translate.

I suspect some are scammers, some are living vicariously through alternative/fake identities, some are trolling, and some are just pic collectors looking for new pics to jack off to.

I never heard the term catfish scammers. I wonder how someone chose to use the word catfish for this.

Well, they're bottom feeders for one thing... and I suppose that could be taken at least a couple ways.

I'm not sure the origin but catfish means to pretend to be someone else online.
