How many of you guys here have OCD, or never thought about it before that you may have it?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).

I'll share mine if the thread takes off... icon_eek.gif

I do. Besides always having to have everything PERFECT, before opening a can of anything, I have to breath on the top 3 times, I always lock every door, I randomly get up and move things around if they feel out of place. Nothing too hardcore though. icon_evil.gif

I did have when I was a kid, and quite severe too.
Self controlled with no medication or counseling or any other therapy.
It's a miracle to me that I've conquered it without any external help.

Mine isn't that bad. I do have a thing with odd numbers though. So for an example when I gas to the gas station to fill up I have to go to a pump with an even number or I'll wait. Odd numbers make me paranoid.

I also check things a lot to see if it's the right thing I'm about to take, or use to prevent damage.

    For me it's the opposite,
I was obsessed with Odd numbers...everything should be odd numbered.

Balancing everything, for example if I touch the right lower corner of a book twice, then I should touch the left lower corner of the book twice. something like that.

I have the absolute worst cardio machine OCD. I can only work out on a machine a multiple of exactly 5 minutes with zero seconds, preferably 30 minutes with ZERO SECONDS. THIRTY MINUTES EXACTLY. And the treadmills at my gym are the DEVIL, because they flash the stats intermittently, so I can't keep track of the time except every like 14 or 20 seconds or something, and it just so happens that it always comes back at the time at 30:01, and of course that fucking kills me, so what I have to do is that the last time it'll flash the time before the 30 minute mark is at like 29:40 something, so I have to count the remaining seconds in my heads, and then push the STOP button when it's exactly 30:00.

    JESUS FUCK I'M CRAZY icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Oddly enough in a lot of other aspects in my life I'm like meh fuck it whatever.

I always check the toilet for snakes, but that's more a phobia than OCD. Other than that, I tend to dwell a lot on possible (or actual) social gaffes.

OMG, I check the toilet for snakes too. Ever since I saw a documentary (a loooong time ago) about like an anaconda or a python being able to work its way through the plumbing. I have ophidiophobia just like you.

Yes, I deal with OCD quite often. I am got a little bit of counseling back in high school for it.

The thoughts were constant and repetitive whenever I felt guilty about something. I felt like something was always going to come back and get me....kinda like bad karma...but to an extreme and unhealthy level!

Yes i do the best thing you can do is pick up a book called Brainlock and learn how to relabel, reattribute, refocus, and revalue. Mine is under control but the perfectionism is constantly there. Sometimes it makes me my own worst enemy good luck to you.

I believe - as with all mental health issues - everyone is on a spectrum.

As well as your habits, I'd be interested to know the reasons/the anxieties behind them. (i.e. you believe something bad will happen if you don't do x or y)

My biggest OCD is making sure I align everything on the lines, like couch with floor boards, same with carpets etc. Also I have to have the voice of my tv on an even number. Its pretty sad icon_sad.gif

Interesting. I pay no attention to the volume setting on the TV, but the car stereo's volume absolutely MUST be set to an even number.

When I'm having a conversation with you, I subconsciously take the last sentence you said, count the total number of syllables out on my fingers, then reverse what you said in my head. So if you said "I think I may go to the store and get some milk", I might count that you just said 12 syllables, then repeat what you said in my head in reverse: "Milk some get and store the to go may I think I." I have no idea where I got the idea to do this exhausting little thing but I'm to the point now where I don't seem to do it as much. But it used to absolutely exhaust me because I would have a conversation with a friend and have no idea what they just said because my brain was too busy dissecting their sentences.

OMG... I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Instead of just being an even number, mine has to be a multiple of 25... 77.25, 77.50, 77.75, etc... I hate petrol purchases coming out of my bank account with any other number in the pence field. Also, I'm compulsive about cleaning things, about washing my hands, the list goes on and on.

    Cheers,

    Sean
