According to the article this one's the "largest single-floor public library"

I was going to suggest probably the Library of Congress, one of my favorite institutions, might be a tad bit bigger.

    Lo & behold: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_libraries_in_the_United_States

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_libraries

    http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/wash/dc79.htm
...The Madison Building was designed by the firm of DeWitt, Poor and Shelton Associated Architects. It is one of the three largest public buildings in the Washington, DC, area and contains 2,100,000 square feet....

...Now the Library of Congress is one of the largest and best-equipped libraries in the world. It houses approximately 90 million items on 540 miles of shelves...

I highly recommend visiting for anyone touring Capitol Hill. The interior spaces are stunning.

No, metta is mostly correct. This is the country's largest single floor library - for idiots.

"Public library" - just two little words, but O, how they touch the white Liberal's heart.

Our libraries today are a disgrace. They are stealth day-care centers. Mom brings kids, drops them off at the Kidz Korner. Then she can browse to her heart's delight without being bothered by her little brats.

The people who work at libraries are some of the dumbest creatures you will ever lay eyes on.

O yes, I see fabulous resources for "Teens" and "Children." WTF?

The library may have 139,000 titles, but idiots are looking for Nicky Sparks novels, and the latest weepy, Oprah-approved tome.

[Humorous and Ironic Note: One must have a government-approved ID and proof of current address to obtain a library card. Isn't that racist or something? Socio-biblio disenfranchisement?]

Very cool, especially because places to access books are pretty limited in the far South of Texas. I remember seeing a story that said many residents lives dozens of miles from the nearest bookstore:

Whether a library is 24 miles away, or 50 yards away makes no difference. We live in an idiocracy.

A donut (?) and a 40oz. Two of Rosie O'Donnell's favorite food groups.

Oh, it's a burrito and Olde English. Obviously an homage to J-Lo.

    Thanks, metta for this link

The library is a huge educational advantage for the community. Many area schools will use the public library as a complement to work done in class.

Libraries, like this one, are becoming centers of the community. It's one of the few places where neighbors cross paths IRL.

"Are becoming centers of the community." Really?

In fact, more people would cross paths at a Walmart than at a library.

You are underscoring the fact that libraries today are a sham. A place for neighbors to meet? Yes, if you mean play dates for their rugrats.
